Default Oil change - low clearance

Did a search and didn’t find this topic. Still getting acquainted with the SC430. Changing oil on our Silverado and Cherokee is a snap. What’s the common practice for the SC430? Ramps?

Thanks in advance

I take my SC to the shop. I costs the same if you buy oil, filter and do it yourself.

Ramps work well for me. I have the low profile ones.

I change my oil without jacking up the car.

I also use the ramps on my 2007 SC. Just be aware that you need to remove some panels under the engine in order to reach the drain plug and the filter.

Ditto on the ramps, however I change my oil on an incline (in this case decline), therefore the car is level when I do the oil change, plus I have the huge access clearance and is safe. In fact all my cars I use this technique.

No. I change my oil in my driveway.
You don't need to remove anything to get to the drain plug. You need to remove the cover to get to the filter.

A small part of the cover will bend down like a door. You remove three bolts on the drivers side, bend the plastic down, then you can reach up and unscrew the oil filter. You should always be able to remove an oil filter by hand, if not, use a wrench then tighten the new one correctly.

the oil pan drain plug is obvious.
just go do it...it’s easy.

i use the plastic rhino ramps...Toyota oil filter and 5w-30 synthetic oil, 5qts. It costs $20-$25 total, sometimes less when I get a great deal on oil.

cool, I have been refilling with 5qts on my 2002 for several years and the 2007 since I made the purchase.
the dipstick is almost at the full mark with 5qts. They don’t use oil. The 2002 has 100k now.

So you’ve been filling to 91% capacity . . . not a material difference.

I was speaking to the owner of a ES350 recently - that engine holds 7 quarts 🤔

the oil needs to be between the low and high mark...anywhere in that range is completely acceptable to Toyota.
i just did an oil change on my neighbors 1967 Austin Healy 3000, it has a 2.9 liter straight six and holds 7.4 qts, but I am not sure how that relates to an SC430 with a 4.3 liter V8.
