Power steering stiff

This is what I found in the forums...
Today, I was searching the forums about SC430 PS problems. Needless to say, I did not find many, but I did find one that said I should make sure the vacuum lines were connected to the pump. He explained how the pump uses vacuum to add or subtract assistance depending on the vacuum from the engine. He said the PS pump would stay in a higher speed condition with the vacuum disconnected.
I was sure that was the problem and when I checked the car after arriving home from work, I noticed that the vacuum lines were connected but the electrical connector was disconnected from the pump. I over looked this connector during reassembly and that was my problem! The PS system is working great again.
The power steering on these cars is pretty simple and basic. As long as you have fluid things go well. There is a valve on the power steering pump operated by engine vacuum for speed sensitivity. This would be the first place I would look. It has two vacuum lines connected to it.
I just need to find those vacuum lines before I invest any money on this problem

There is a very good chance your vacuum lines are connected, but have a crack in them. It is a VERY good chance

From what I can tell you need to take quite a few components apart to reach the pump. There was no way to get a photo of the pump with taking the car apart. This pic is off the Internet.

BTW how is the color of the fluid in the reservoir? Does it contain ATF DEXRONŽ️ II or III (capacity 1quart U.S.)?

Okay maybe this diagram from my 02 service manual will help. Part 17630, underlined in red is the air valve for the vacuum lines. Shows their path. Access to the valve will be from under the car.
The service manual uses a few special service tools in conjunction with servicing the pump. Including work on the air valve and an interior union seat under the valve in the body of the pump. (Not shown in the vacuum piping diagram below.) Work on the pump is typically done dismounted from the car according to the service manual.
