njsteve, I tried Goo Gone along with a hair dryer and the adhesive remained rock hard. I think something is needed to soften it first.

Thanks BGW, but I have to wonder whether the grit from the adhesive will be carried by the wheel and scratch up the paint.

its really safe, it's rather soft like those old gum erasers. The ones that had the clear yellow brown look to them. Auto body shops, auto detainers use them all the time for this purpose. It works on the same principle as rubbing your thumb on a sticky residue to remove it. There's gotta be YouTube videos on it so you could see it in action. The problem with solvents on a vertical panel is keeping it there long enough for it to work..

That’s the beauty of the trunk lid. When it’s open the logo is on a horizontal plane. All you need is a step stool and maybe a temporary brace.

I remember, a lot of patience, Goo Gone and fingernails. Then polish (use your favorite polishing agent) with Zymol wax. Easy-peasy.

I finally gave up on trying to remove the adhesive and decided that if it is that difficult to remove it, it won't come loose when I reapply the emblem on top. I think that it turned out pretty good though. (Pardon the fun house type reflections. I just noticed those...)
