First before ordering a new part you should inspect and test the switch. The problem may not be the switch. It could be the harness, or maybe the Roof ECU. To get access to the switch you have to take most of the trunk apart as it is part of the hinge mechanism. The instructions for taking the trunk apart are here in the SC430 forum....USE THE SEARCH TOOL.
A long time ago, BGW was kind enough to copy and post a bunch of the convertible top procedures.
You can do an advanced search with my name as post creator and TOP in the subject line.
Here are a couple of the pages that may apply to you.
I should point out that when you take your SC into the dealer and say the top doesn't work, most of the time they tell you to replace both Left & right hinge assemblies.
They don't usually mess with the individual components.
You may want to do the same. I just bought a pair of complete hinges for $250 off ebay from JnJautoparts. I installed them this past weekend.
So I got everything apart but I’m having a hard time finding exactly where this switch is. According to the diagrams I’ve seen it’s under the package tray area on the passenger side and not on the hinges? Can anyone confirm this?
So I finally located the switch since it was extremely hidden. Tested terminals 2 and 3 like the manual says and when the switch is released there is continuity and when it is pressed there is no continuity. So doesn’t seem like the switch itself is the issue. Tested volts on the connector and that seems ok as two of the terminals have 11 volts. I guess the last thing is to replace the ECU?
Correct, if you are sure you tested it correctly, then the next step is replacement of the roof ECU. I say this because of the original symptoms....works after a battery reset. That tells us the wiring harness is OK too. The Part number should be 89720-24010.
It should match the one in your trunk. Check the label on the existing ECU. Several on eBay, but beware those may or may not be programmed.
