I installed a set of Michelin Pilot SS tires 15k miles ago. 30k mileage warranty.
On asphalt roads they work well.
On concrete block so cal freeways they are very noisy and kick back quite a bit on sharp edges.
ruins the car imo.
Replaced my ls460’s noisy tires with primacy and noise is gone and the ride is much better.
unfortunately primacy’s do not come in p245/40r18.
they do come in p245/45r18
difference is 780 revs per mile versus 809 revs on the 40 series.
probably ride better at 45 series versus the oem 40’s.
anyone tried this? Any feedback or info would be helpful.
changed the rear sway bar already to the is250 one which helped the handling and have a front bar here now to install so I am thinking I will be ok on the handling
speedo may be off a little but the noise and ride fixes are needed.
Not a race car. Need a quieter ride and more comfort.
car is so quiet that the noisy tires are way noticeable as they wore.
My Son has the 245/45/18's on his 2005 SC 430. When one of his run flats had an issues he was on a road trip to NC from VA moving his daughter into UNCW and he could only find a set of 245/45/18's in town at the Firestone dealer so that is what he went with and has not had any issues.
I'm thinking about mounting a set of 255/45/18 to the rear to improve ride quality. I think it should be fine as far as clearance go since we have plenty of room in the rear wheel well. It wont look nice but I would trade it for ride comfort.
Please let me know how your experience goes with 245/45/18.
Alex.
One should consider is the nominal width of the rim the specific tire was tested on. For example, on another vehicle I have two brand s of 265/60/18 tires, one for sumer and one for winter.. One brand was tested as to its specifications on 7.5" rims, the other on 8" rims. Nominally they both fit 7.5 or 8" rims. I have one set of 7.5" rims, the other 8".
The tire dealers mounted the tested 8" tire on the 7.5" rims. I had driving, inflation, and system (traction control) problems.
However, when I switched the tires to the size rims they were nominally tested on, the problems went away.

Reason: sticky fingers
Remember if you have a car that requires, e.g., V rated tires, the recommendation is that you go no lower than H speed rated tires when replacing them. This is not just nanny bureaucracy, but is based on real system fact.
In some ways your tires are the most important part of your car.
Sorry about the misspelling of the header I haven't had coffee yet...
Added a figs front larger sway bar today to the Michelin 245/45/18 mxm4 installation yesterday. And drove the car more miles to test the combo.
ahhhh we are progressing. Really quiet tires. Nice riding. Turn well if aggressive turning the wheel more. Still some body roll from the too long springs on the oem struts. Just like the Meister rep told me I would see.
Correct rate but the spring is too long.
Is250 rear bar. Figs front bar, shock tower brace, now the tires.
almost can square the turns now but the taller tires and long springs prevent it from turning in hard easily.
the non variable ratio steering is noticeable for the amount of steering wheel movement needed to induce hard turning.
with the coil overs and some tire wear to lower the tires tread block height we should be pretty good.
May play wiitn different durometer bushings but the nice ride is more important than max cornering.
i can see where dropping the car could help the handling somewhat but Wife does not like a even lower car.
So stock height plus 1/2 inch for the taller tires is it so far.
need to rationalize the need for $1,500 installed worth of coil overs.
Only reason i post this is some have posted changing the rims to 17” for ride quality.
that change might be even better than the 245/45/18 mxm4 tires but I did not want to buy rims also.
sure rides better and much, much quieter and now is starting to turn better also.
You can almost bury the noise turning in on corners. Not quite yet. It’s never going to be a fling it around corners car but I bet I can come pretty close with another application of cash.
Nice enough “keeper” car to fix it while the parts are still available.
