Default Back with a vengeance...

Well, not really. I had been off for a good bit after selling my LS430. Really, the only car I seriously wish I never sold. Anyway, I just picked up an 06 SC430 with 64k miles. TB & WP already done and well as a new alternator and battery. It is in really good shape. I'm pretty excited to be back into a Lexus even if it's not my daily driver. She needs a little suspension work but this is to be expected. Good to be back.

Congrats and Welcome to the SC section. You will love your SC as your LS. I did and still do and definitely will love her until I leave this world.

Very Nice. Is that Twilight Amethyst Pearl or the Smoky Granite Mica? Hard to tell with that light.

Congratulations beautiful car.

One note, make sure that the reason the alternator needed replacement wasn't because the power steering leaking into it. Would hate to hear you have to replace it again.

Welcome to the SC430 forum and congratulations on your acquisition. That is a sharp looking car. (Also, I agree with Coleroad, make sure that you don't have a power steering pump leak.)

Thanks guys. It's a pleasure to drive. The work was done at a Lexus dealer did the work so it's good chance the steering rack was not the issue. Color I believe is black onyx

On my list -
Clean throttle body
Clean MAF
Clean smog sensor
Replace engine temperature sensor
Replace front lower ball joints
Replace tie-rod ends
Alignment and road force ballance
Check upper and lower control arms

She does not track a she should on rough pavement. I'm not a big fan of the Potenza runflats on her right now as well. Probably by winter I will look to put on all season tires at a 45 sidewall.

Lavrishevo

If you don't mind me asking as a recent purchaser of an 2006 SC with 60,570 on the clock what you paid for your 2006?

You guys notice a "secondary air filter" within the intake housing that holds the MAF? I have no memory of this on my LS430. I can imagine it restricts airflow a good amount. I went ahead and removed it and she seems to breath better.

There should be just one filter in the air box. A secondary filter may have been added I suppose but I can’t imagine why.

Update: so I’ll correct myself. So it’s a hydrocarbon filter for the emissions system standard created by CARB. It’s design requirements required it to be installed permanently. It wasn’t installed as part of my 02.

It's definitely oem and it did not come out easily. It's more of a mesh with a thin cloth. Mounted in the top housing. Maybe a secondary layer to protect the MAF? I had to break it out. It is not installed to be serviceable.

What joy a convertible is. It's my first. Really enjoying this car. Fillled it up with 93 from Cosco and 1/3 of a bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil to help clean the tank. 1/3 went into the oil pan to help decarb and clean before she gets Mobile 1 extended performance synthetic. Love the stuff. She is running really nice. Computer said I averaged 27 mpg the 15 miles home which I think is excellent considering it was back roads and a bit stop and go traffic.

Interesting, this is why forums are great. I honestly don't remember if I did this on my LS430 but what a fellow member described is exactly what I was feeling in the wheel on rough pavement. Worn out steering rack bushing. Just ordered them off Amazon. I will probably do them first to see if it solves the issue. I forgot to mention with my previous post I also ordered front and rear sway bar bushings. And a Bluetooth radio kit for music playback. Whoohoo.

Default Nice job!

In the future, I would consider Chevron Techron, rather than Marvel Mystery Oil, and Mobil One 0-30 as a replacement for 5-30 M1. Consider replacing the oil/MMO shortly. Sounds like you maybe already doing that!

Techron is the only fuel additive recommended and certified for MB by the factory. I've been using it in Acuras, NSXes, MBs, real AMGs over the years and it is the best. The poseurs like Seafood, BG and so on won't, know they can't pass, or can't spend the money, on the MB certification. In one case I called the vendor of one of those products to see if they were getting the certification and they dismissed my question....

There is no oil additive recommended for the AMG so that is the regimen I follow with all the other cars. Also, I replace the M1 at 6,000 miles rather than 10,000 miles in the MB. I use M1 0-40 in the MBs and M1 0-30 in the Naughty SC 430. Haven't figured out when I should replace the SC oil but it will probably be a 5-6kMile service or once a year.

After acquiring the SC, the seller put in 5-30 with a new filter. I ran it about 1500 miles. I then changed the filter and went to 0-30. I put in Techron at every 93 fill although I will do it less often know that I have a cleaner system. My average MPG did go up.

YMMV
