My install is probably closed to what you are looking for and i'm pretty sure it costs a lot less than 1 grand.

1. Install Naviks (or Navtools)
2. Use the composite input for backup camera.
3. Plug in your Chromcast into the HDMI port.
4. User main phone to turn on Wifi Hotspot, Chromecast need Wifi to work.
5. Use another phone connect to the same WIFI hotspot to do screen mirroring to Chromecast.
6. If you don’t mind using cable, skip step 3-5, get yourself a USB-C to HDMI cable or whatever work for your phone to HDMI and use it to connect your phone to the HDMI port on the Naviks.
7. If you want sound you will need to buy additional hardware, like Vaistech SL3U-L or search for poorman’s aux input in this forum.
8. Use the button to switch back & forth between the HDMI input and built-in Nav. The backup cam will come on the nav screen when Naviks detects backup power.

Please don't expect great resolution on the Nav screen because you ain't gonna get it.

Similar question in a way. Does anyone know if there is a way to keep the door to the upper NAV screen to remain closed when starting the vehicle, but open when the car is put into Reverse and the after market backup camera has been triggered to come on?

You are out of luck. I wanted the same. In fact, I try to find the way to keep the NAV door open and only close on demand. So far no luck.

Installed a $40 on-sale Rand McNally backup camera. Yikes it is intermittent. A freeze frame can hide kids crossing behind me. And they make such a mess.

Installed head unit, back-up camera, and dropped the antenna permanently with no issues - love it - rarely open the Nav - looks great closed

If your NAV door's closed, how do you use the back up cam? I guess you use the new head unit?

I'm getting my head unit replaced. I was told the door for the top display will still function. My screen is so sun damaged it isn't useful, so I was going to ask them to remove it and leave it out if it's possible to retain the power door without it.

If I don't need the screen in there to retain the power door function, I was going to see if it's possible to 3D print or make a functional cup holder and glasses storage.
