The son needs a new plastic key fob case. The DIL drove the SC Saturday and broke the plastic fob case. Any suggestions on which brand? Does it need to be OEM. The son has the cut key portion and the circuit board/transmitter so I am thinking just pop open case and install the cut key and transmitter board?
Try this, but no more Lexus logo. Make sure it is entirely compatible to your Lexus year. I also bought this for my RX330, alas, my key has a different design. It was not compatible. It has something to do with the shape of the shank head. They are not all the same design. So be aware. The picture below shows how my SC430 head shank is, mine's an 03.
Circuit board and transmitter portion is what is important. Transfer that into a 100% fitting case with or without a Lexus logo and you will be fine. Even if the case has an uncut key, you can get it cut at a neighborhood locksmith shop if the rest of it fits ok.
My SC430 key had a shoulder and it fit perfect on this case that I bought.
However my RX330 Key has no shoulder (just straight shank), however has a hole in the middle.
I bought a different type case, which nowadays include a plastic holder and a screw. It should work on my RX330. This is a recent product and almost all of them are this style already. Lexus has changed the key design over the years. I bought a pair for $11.
