Default Skid control module. 2002 sc430

I think I may need a new skid control module.
abs and brake light on
speedometer not working
steering stiff at low speed

any suggestions ?
dealership said new one is $3-4K just for the part
I’m planing on taking it my local Japanese mechanic

Should I buy one on eBay ? Should I worry about getting one that will break in less than a year ?

Can a local mechanic calibrate this or will I have to take it to the dealership for this?

thanks.

If you use the search tool, searching for “skid control” there are several threads covering this exact topic. Here is that search: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sea...rchid=21178906

Members have reported the same symptoms and have used other mechanics or even had their ECU repaired rather than paying the 3-4K you mentioned. Please take the time to read through the applicable threads....it will ease your mind over the 3-4K potential expense.

I took the car to my local Japanese car mechanic. He had me order a skid control module ECU (eBay) and he will install it next week.
I got the impression he thinks it was more of a plug in and go type set up.
From what I have read the skid control module requires calibration.

1. Is a calibration required?
2. Does anyone know if this calibration is something a local mechanic can do or does it require the dealership?
3. After it is plugged in, will things work at least mostly or is the calibration required before things start to work normal?

Any mechanic worth one’s salt, or your time and money, should be able to get the file....or you could be searching the Internet for “lexus skid control calibration files download”. Today’s car and even ones 10+years old are controlled by wire.

BTW did you ever pull DTCs from the car, and if so which ones came up?

I did not get the codes. I dropped it off at the mechanic this morning and he called me back this afternoon to inform me it was the skid control module.

Well if you trust what they’re telling you. If it were me I’d want to know what DTCs were thrown.
