Quick question about LSD swap

Hello - I haven’t posted in a while but I did this mod a few years ago when I was still tracking my ‘04 SC430. I swapped the entire pumpkin with one from a Supra TT with 3.76 GR. I wanted to upgrade the bushings too and that was some extra work. I removed the exhaust to have access. The only problem I had was the diff came with the wrong flange so I bought a new one. With the other mods and good tires I got the 0-60 down to 5.1 Sec. I drive a different car on the track but but the SC responsiveness is great. My around town gas mileage is 17.4 mpg now vs about 19.2 before the change. Highway mileage is better but I don’t drive it as much now. You can see more details in my old posts and garage.

Just to clariy, the rev limiter issue is only if you're swapping in a 02-05 with the lower gear ratio, correct? The 06+ has the same 3.76 ratio stock.
I'm not seeing the bushings on their site: https://www.powerflexusa.com/shop/ca...1993-2002-1538
do you happen to have part numbers?

That is correct but it’s not a rev limiter issue - it’s the speed limiter. Any higher durometer mushing would be better than OEM For performance driving though. Two bushings on the diff and two on the subframe.
If I remember correctly I bought them from Figs Eng not powerflex

good luck

WOW, $250 for 2 bushings?! Good god anything with the word "Supra" on it costs an arm and a leg.

Does anyone understand the supra differential well enough to explain the bushings to me?
There's apparently an upper and a lower part. I believe these are the upper bushings:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/SPF2769K-Su...ss!92019!US!-1
But they have an "insert" into the lower ones?
I think these are the lower bushings?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/SPF4888K-Su...pe!92019!US!-1
Do you need both?
Is that all I would need? At least that's only $130

This is the Aristo LSD I picked up after some prepwork (wire brush on the drill) and high temp paint.
Nothing fancy, but no one is ever going to see it.

ok... so now that the shop has the diff in it's hands, one really big note for 06+ owners considering this.
The 06+ axles are "slip on" not "bolt on" like the supra LSD. The 02-05 are the plug and play.
We think we can just swap for the 02-05 axles into the 06. If anyone knows for sure, let me know. If not, I'll update the thread with our success or failure.
I really hope having a LSD is everything all the threads said it is, because this swap is getting more expensive, lol.

Hmmm. So what you are saying is you may have an Supra LSD for the 02-05 SC for sale here very soon? LOL. Just kidding of course. But... Still reading. ;-)
Paul
There's one on ebay right now, (Item # 133096674928) is that the same animal?

Here is a thread that talks about swapping the oem 06+ SC diff into the 02-05s.. I didn't come across this thread before I bought the diff because it's about swapping the 06 oem diff to the pre-06's (not specifically LSD related): https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...for-sc430.html
They go into great detail on the differences. Someone might find it useful in the future.

That is exactly the listing I purchased from, looks like they have one more. Seller: japanese_performance_engines
after an intense "make offer" back and forth, we settled on $1100. So if anyone is considering buying it, it's worth a little haggling.
Even his asking price of 1300 was far cheaper than any other I could find for months. USDM Supra TT Auto LSDs are almost non-existent, and if you find one, it's probably going to have a lot of miles on it. While we don't know how many miles the JDM ones have, generally their cars are retired from the road way earlier (like 60k) than our cars. Plus people beat on supras hard, Aristos are probably less subject to that kind of abuse.

Thank You Sir. Unfortunately work schedules have been totally destroyed at my place with everything slipping several months behind which is absolutely KILLING my pocketbook. But who knows. Maybe later.

Ok, let me confirm for the record, any 06+ owner nutty enough to want a LSD bad enough can swap the Supra/Aristo 2JZ-GTE Auto LSD with 02-05 SC430 axles.
Just got the car back from the shop. Got the LSD as well as Aristo front swaybar and ISF rear swaybar swap, and some maintenance done.
I highly recommend the sway bars, but be aware, on rough terrain (crappy pavement), my first impression is that it's a little more turbulent than before. Other than that, it feels PERFECT. It's no Miata, but it's smooth and predictable through the turns, it really doesn't feel like a 3800lb car.
I'd love to tell you the LSD is definitely worth all the time/money it takes to track one down and swap it, but a LSD is kind of one of those things that you're glad you have, but it's hard to quantify the gain. Personally, I don't regret the decision one bit, I'm thrilled with it. But if you're prioritizing performance mods, you could spend that same money on headers/exhaust and have a provable 20+hp gain.
If you have money for both, then for sure, go for it!
I should have had them take some pics when they put it in, maybe next time I have it up on a lift I'll snap some.
Oh, and one more thing, if you're in the San Diego area, I can't recommend this shop enough:
https://www.yelp.com/biz/luxury-import-care-la-mesa-2
https://www.luxuryimportcare.com
These guys know Lexus cars inside and out, even the SC430 which is a far less common Lexus than most. Their attention to detail was excellent, and they worked with me when we ran into issues and worked through them. Great communication/customer service too.

I reset the trip computer so it can work out an average MPG starting with the LSD install. I still have some interesting plans ahead, so it might not be a true reading for a while.
The next mechanical upgrade is likely to a be an intake manifold from the 05-06 2UZ engine. I tracked down the manifold/tb/fuel rails/injectors from a scrap yard with low miles for cheap. I've see 2 GS guys do the swap (can't remember if it was on CL or lextreme). I believe I might be the first to do it on a SC430 (or at least the first one to post about it).
I'm curious to see if the Tundra TB is the same size as ours... if it is I'll just keep ours, if it's bigger I might look at adapting the wiring harness to swap it. They're both drive by wire and 6 pin.
Anyway, my point being that it will change the mpg numbers most likely, so hopefully we'll get some usable data before I get around to that project.
