Default JDM Wind Deflector Antenna?

I got a pristine JDM wind deflector of yahoo japan, 1 question... What is the antenna on it for and where would it connect in our cars?

Our cars have two antennas for the radio. The main aerial on the right rear quarter and auxiliary antenna imbedded into the windshield. I haven’t seen one in the wind deflector before. Wonder if the Japanese version got rid of the aerial which many members here see as antiquated. Or if connects to the OEM cellular system.

The pole antenna in quarter panel has two connectors ....one for power, the other for signal reception. IF I remember correctly that blue connector does NOT look like the signal reception one on the antenna pole. But lets say it is then you’d reroute to the new antenna in the wind deflector.

Naw. Since I just changed my 02 Pole antenna, I can honestly say there is only one plug that connects to the external harness. (But there is a second plug that is part of the automatic antenna switching unit) and one drain tube. There is definitely not a plug like that one. I'm betting you were right the first time and it is to a cellular connection.

It looked more like a cell antenna than a rf antenna to me as well. If that's the case, then I will see if it's easy to remove it, since it's pretty visible.

Route of Radio Wire #3. My recollection is its a older style phono type connector maybe Paul knows the correct name. But it is like the one shown (male cylinder shaped one) at the radio set in the diagram below. Looks like tearing half the car's interior apart to get to it all. There is a separate GPS antenna located under the dash near the map display.

Here’s an interesting bit of trivia. The OEM radio has two antenna ports, one for the aerial and one for the sub-antenna imbedded in the windshield.

Well the cylinder one is easy. That's just the RF wire that runs from the back of the radio to the antenna itself. The second wire that terminates into the rectangular box behind the rear seat area is a mystery to me though.
I know that my 02 Antenna has another plastic box (but still part of the entire power antenna assembly) that changes the mast antenna height from FM to AM. In FM mode, the antenna fully extends and then comes back down one section in length because of the specific wavelength of the FM signal. Then when you select AM, the antenna fully extends. And my NAV antenna is located in the dash.

On further checking it is a cellular antenna for Japanese version of the Soarer. Our pole antenna has the cylinder type phono connector for the signal wire.

thanks!

So there's no use for it on our cars then?

I was just looking at it, removing it wouldn't help anything because the plexiglass is black behind it.

there is a slight yellow to the plastic, I'm going to try clearing it up with this guide: http://www.retrofixes.com/2013/10/ho...-plastics.html

Once I get it back to clear, should I spray it with something to prevent it from re-yellowing in the California sun? Maybe a clear coat or something? I don't have any experience painting plexiglass.

I could always apply a light tint to it, but that would really only protect one side of it. Or maybe like a UV window film? Thoughts?

Did you find it using a parts diagram? Maybe we can go back to the original source and find out how it is listed.

If not, do you have a part number we can google and see how it is listed there?

Here is the original listing on buyee.jp, https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/q174125998

most of it is not in english... how I figured out it was the right one is that H18 is 2006 and the 2006+ JDM soarers had it. I'm not sure if there's a part number buried in there somewhere, I couldn't find one that came up when I googled it.

It’s the Board Assembly, Wind deflector part number 63230-24030 w/cellphone antenna or without 63320-24011....but crazy money for a piece of plexiglass. It’s definitely a salvage yard pick up.
