Just curious... Why did they do that?
The side mirrors. They would point themselves down when I put her in reverse. Then they didn't.
I got curious tonight and played with the mirror selection switch and if either the driver or passenger side mirror is selected for adjustment, they both toggle down when the car is put in reverse.
I understand how that can be beneficial to see curbs or parking space seperation lines.
But if the selector switch is in the middle where neither side is selected, they do not toggle down. Why do you think Lexus did that? Just curious.

So people would have the option to “easily” turn the “auto-tilt” feature on, or off, if they did not like it. Lexus says the master switch allows the rear view mirror to move to the “comfort” position for backing up. If it was only done in personalized settings it would have been a burden.

Ok. I can accept that. I thought it would have been nicer if the selector switch just toggled the mirror selected. But I have always complained about Toyota engineers not understanding the KISS concept and that would just add one more circuit to malfunction. Thanks. I was just curious.

The European and Japanese versions also automatically fold in when the car is in Park and locked. A feature not available in the N. America version of the car. Most likely reason - narrow streets in those parts of the world.

I leave it in the OFF position to save the wear and tear on the plastic gears.

I do a lot of parallel parking where I live and almost always back into a space. For backing up it isn't necessary. But parallel parking next to a curb its useful. That's why I thought it would have been nice if the selector switch just adjusted the mirror selected. But, its really a feature that isn't necessary. Kind of like Headlight washers. LOL.

Oh, that headlight washer? I think it’s stupid idea.

You might want to rethink that. When i got my sc the driver's mirror would not move.Previous owner did not see the need to use the tilt option, left the selector in the middle position and it would not move at all when i purchased it. So when i got it the mirror needed alot of lubrication( a suggestion from this forum--thank you) with some manual persuasion and slowly came back to life. I'm not saying to constantly tilt them but maybe move them FULLY every now and then and keep the lubrication throughout the mechanisms.
