Default drivers a/c register

I have to replace the drivers a/c register (extreme left). Anybody have any experience on that project? All of the info that I have found point towards removing the dash pad. Sure don't want to do that if that operation is not necessary.

That's a great link from Eric (Bgw70). The register, duct no. 1, is retained from behind according to the parts diagram. So his solution seems to be the only viable method without taking the whole dash out.

i researched and tried different things to remove the entire piece...nothing!
then Retroplay told me he removed the front frame and as you see, it worked!

Thank you so much for the advice. I was able to change the front trim and the two sets of veins to complete the repair. One thing that I found that really made the reassembly go without a hitch, was to spray all of the plastic pieces with dry lube, it made all the pieces easily slid back into place.
Thanks again...I really did not want to pull the crash pad. Ed
