I just got off the phone with Lexus and sure enough there is another Takata recall. I have a 2006 and the air bag was replaced in August of 2015. They are saying the replacement is defective also. So round two with the air bags.
I just spoke with Lexus of Tulsa and my 06 which had the inflator replaced in Sep of 2015 is also involved in this recall. I will drive to Tulsa on Nov 5 next Tuesday and have it replaced. However my son's 2005 SC 430 which had the inflator replaced in Nov of 2017 is not involved. Thanks for the Tip. Hope the weather is good for the 250 round trip drive next Tuesday to Tulsa. I will make sure I roll in with the gas tank near Empty. I assume we will get a free tank of gas again.
If you read the recall it is once again about high humidity and heat. Mine stays in a garage in Virginia. I am seriously considering not participating in this one. It is ridiculous for them to ask once again for us to return to the dealership for this service. The closest Lexus dealer is two hours away. Who's going to pay for that?
Have been lucky that my cars came back the same way I left them (SC and IS) on the multiple air bag recalls. I have a new recall on the IS, something to do with the fuel rail...ignoring it for half a year and then 2 days ago, my Lexus dealer left a VM saying I need to take the car in and a loaner car will be provided. Time to get it done. Excited what loaner car I will get. Double edged sword, that's how you get in trouble...once you experience the new cars, you are hooked. Que sera sera!
Blake it is certainly your choice to participate or not...but consider this map of incidents or post removal testing. While climate, heat & humidity, seems to be the dominant factor, it’s not the sole factor. NOTE: This incident map is more than two (2) years old. I urge reconsidering.
I agree that is fun to experience new models. After my lease ends on my plug-in hybrid I will probably pick up a 2012+ LS460. I think I'm done buying new. Then maybe I will be allowed back onto that forum... hahaha. I'm currently banned for expressing my opinions on the early models, lol.
In the 1st round of Air bag recalls, the major suppliers of the Airbags had to scramble to manufacture replacements and therefore did not build the ideal airbags, however it was safer to do multiple iterations of recalls. It was included in the plan. This way, they minimized the exposure of the exploding airbags. I had an airbag supplier explain this to me. It took a lot of collaboration between the airbag suppliers, in essence they were spending Takata's money. No more Takata now.
