Default Navigation Screen - Permanently Remove

Has anyone simply removed the navigation screen permanently and used the space for something else? I am thinking about ways to keep the wood door but make it into storage or something useful since I replaced the radio head unit with carplay. Would love to hear any ideas or issues with doing this. Thanks

You could keep it and hook it up as a 2nd screen or backup camera. The resolution is better when hooked up to an aftermarket unit from what I have seen.

What did you replace the radio with? I so want to ditch the factory setup for something with airplay and backup camera.

You are right my new stereo head unit is much better and can't imagine actually using the other screen anyway. thanks for the thought though

I ended up putting in a Kenwood 9705S. I will tell you it was not an easy project just due to space. Taking the rear interior out to put in a new woofer and back speakers was fairly easy .. needed to fabricate the brackets, but being plastic allowed for it. The front speaker change outs were a bit more challenging as my Dremel got some extensive work. I still could not get the steering wheel controls to work. Word of advice, do not go with Axxis TOY-Lex .. it makes it so the navigation is rendered inoperable and the darn controls still don't work. Seeing as how I was a few days into this project and I managed to get the head unit back into place, I just put it back to gether. I am thinking I will replace with a wiring harness that actually works .. but as I think about taking it out again, I don't think it will be soon. My hands will need to repair themselves first.

Pete, did you know the BeatSonic interface unit will retain all controls, NAV and add a backup camera and the ability to display video output from your Kenwood?
many of us have used it and are very satisfied.
