Default New Tires for 2002 SC 430?

I'm a NEWBIE so please be patient with my questions ( 2 ). This has probably been discussed before but the FORUM is so big that I can't seem to check all the posts. I obviously need help. Question one: I want to replace my Bridgestone DriveGuard run flats with regular tires. I want the smoothest, quietest ride possible and I don't care about handling, tread wear etc. Recommendations from tires on the market now? Question two: Is there any benefit to making the ride smoother by changing to tires with taller sidewalls like 245/50R18 and what will fit? Let me know what your experience has been. Thanks, Knox Rodgers

If you are a Costco member, that would be your best bet. If tired of Bridgestone, get Michelins.

Michelin Super Sports. Have not tried them but heard are good. I do not know if available at Coscto. You can go to costco.com and shop for tires. Wait for good discounts too. Do not get Run Flats.

mandyfig, thanks. also, do you have a mini-spare or just take your chances and hope for no flats?

Just switched from run-flats to Continental Extreme Contact DWS6 245/45 18 tires.
A world of difference, couldn't be more pleased.

Also purchased from eBay a spare and fits well in the trunk.

I second the Continentals. Have had them for 6 months and am very happy with them.

Michellins AS3 are the choice for most folks here. Do the search on spare tire kit, there are plenty of talk pertaining to this subject.
There is one just couple threads below this thread.

Ratings wise, the Pirelli Cinturado P7 plus is the best all seasons available. Those Continentals are good. Michelin Primacy MXM4

I carefully decide where to take trips to, lol. I do carry an air pump and a flat repair can. It is not my daily so, exposure is limited.

Now that you have brought it up, I will be more conscious about it.

This. If you want to see people who truly care about the ride of their tires, visit the LS forum. The tire thread is MASSIVE.

And I agree. After having the Pirelli P7 Plus on my LS, I was desperate to get them on my SC430. And I wasn't disappointed. It's shocking how smooth, plush and quiet it makes the SC (if that's what you're looking for).

Size is 245/45/18

I bought Cooper Zeon RS3-A. Would be 100% perfect except they get flat spots if you don't drive the car every day. Which I don't.

Had Conti DWS on the SC after I ditched rfts way back when. Fine tires but got really noisy after 20 to 25k miles. Had Mich Pilot AS on another car and they did really well. Nice ride good grip. Now have bfgoodrich comp all seasons on the SC and they are good for the price. Discount price Michelin is what I would call it. Flat spots when cold though.

Have the new Bridgestone potenza 980 AS on a different car now. Good tire, good steering response, not too expensive but it hums at 50 mph.
So I avoid driving at 50 mph.

If I had to buy tires for the SC today ( I do not ), I would get Michelin Pilot sport AS3 with a Costco discount.

I've used both Continental DWS and the Michelin AS3s (current tires) for my SC430s. I liked the Continentals pretty well, but they were notorious for flat-spotting very quickly, so the first mile or two was kind of rough every time I pulled the SC430 out. I've had zero problems/flat-spotting with my Michelins, and they have been smooth and nice. I use the Pirelli P7s on my LS600hL, and also appreciate the nice smooth ride they provide. When the time comes to replace my current tires on my SC430, I'll go with either the Michelin AS3s with the Pirelli P7s.
