Default Opinions Please on "Gabriel" Shocks and Struts

Looking for struts for the 02. Same problem as everyone else has. Cost. But I just found a possible new alternative. "Gabriel Ultra Shocks and Struts, G51995" for the rear at $54.99 each at Summit. They are also listing front struts "G56598" for $49.99.

Anyone have any experience on Gabriel. Any opinions? It's either these or I'm looking at $400+ for two shocks in the rear. Really interested in what you think. Thanks.

Paul

Well. Not surprising no responses because Gabriel isn't a name in struts that comes up for our cars. So, I did some snooping on the Toyota Nation website and a few others. Gabriel seems to have a good review status, often compared between KYB and OEM. A complete set of shocks front and rear is only $210.00. Guess I am going to be the Guinea pig. I'll order a set tomorrow. With the money I save on struts, it should just about replace everything else I need replacing. Wish me luck. I'll let everyone know my review when I get everything done.

They have a reputation of being cheap and low quality. KYB up front and OEM in the back is probably the best replacement option. KYB is OEM but the rate may be slightly different ordered directly. Bilstien is an option too and the rears are custom order.

I think you should change or cancel. Not worth the savings.

Check this out
Ebay

They are advertising KYB on the rear. I don't understand why this is standard as it was on the LS430

Lav, Im not driving like you are. LOL. Maybe in the future I will go through the full sway bar, bushing etc. routine. It definately has its appeal, but not yet. Just normal street driving in usually very good conditions.

I have KYB's on the front of my LS400. Since I didn't install them I have no comparison. But I can tell you they need to be replaced and didnt last any longer than OEM. One clunks over mild bumps. All I can do for the SC is go by reviews which for the Gabriel struts themselves is not too bad.

My car has 108K miles and needs control arms, ball joints etc. And thats OEM. So, what does that say? Mevotech appears to be junk. I could go with coilovers but then thats just a different sacrifice. And just to get my suspension up to minimal standards has already been diagnosed and priced out $2500.00 with KYB struts front and stock rear, plus lower front control arms and labor. And that doesn't include any ball joints at all.

I can live with cheaper struts for now so not to chew up tires and alignments and get better quality for the parts that I really care about. But I really do appreciate the input.

Installed Gabriel Ultras on my 03 Corvette and 08 Miata. Corvette had some ridiculously priced 800.00 each electronic shocks that were leaking and the Miata had some factory Bilstiens that were so stiff that they made the ride much to harsh. The struts and shocks on both cars worked out very well. No complaints. Affordably priced at Autozone.
