Default Getting leather cleaned

Hi,

Going to have leather shop clean and dye leather on my 2002 Sc430. This is the video before the work and will post another one once cleaned tomorrow.

Work completed today and looks spectacular. Will recommend this shop to anyone interested in the Austin area. He said the only treatment for the leather to do is wipe w warm water only. Do not use any leather products for cleaning or treatment as they clog the pores and attract dirt.

Did he reapply an acrylic clear coat or similar over the repairs and coloring. Almost all car leather has a permanent coating over it. If not, did he warn you what would remove the color and filler he used? I suppose that warm water only is a short answer to my question. But I'm curious about the products used.

I did not ask nor he tell me the process. All I know it needed to be done on a day with no humidity as the products he used are water based. the dye dries instantly when applied. No protection applied after cleaning and repair. He just said to use warm water to clean and not to use any aftermarket leather cleaner, sealer, protection as all it does is clog the pores and attract dirt.

I suppose the chance of spilling something to damage the repair is pretty slim. Is this a franchise? Like Dr Vinyl or similar?

Not a franchise but rather a ma and pa operation that has been in business for over 30 years and couple of businesses refer people to him. Great crew and outstanding work.

It would have been nice for other Lexus owners if it was a national franchise/brand that anyone could go to when the time comes.

I did my leather the quick, lazy, and unconventional way by using SEM spray on.....The color came out close but not exactly as stock but looks a lot better then the crack side bolster I had.....

If you watch the many leather cleaning videos online using a steamer is a favorite of professionals. I find it overkill for my needs. I clean mine with a good mild leather cleaner and a leather brush which does a great job. Particularly for perforated leather. Trust me, the brush is much better than a cloth. Wipe clean immediately with warm water. I get a lot more die transfer from jeans on the Kia leather vs the Lexus which is interesting.

Pretty interesting seeing the repair process. Not sure why they call it dyeing when it's clearly paint.
