Thanks, no the light does not come on not using the external ground wire. No matter how much I adjust and move the ground nothing happens. The power is all there constant at 11.5.

what kind of readings should I look for on the probe with the rivets? None of the wiring is frayed at all within the unit. One of the screws was rusty so perhaps water got there at some point. The car is now garaged and never sees rain.

I noticed in the picture that the jumper is missing...can you put the jumper back on and tell us if the light comes on? See yellow box in attached pic.
this is how the light bulb obtains it’s ground.

I took this picture over a week ago I just posted it so you can see the condition of the rivets. The switch has been put back together since then. What should the next step be at this point? What could be causing the jumper not to ground? Could it be the little copper clip that bridges the gap causing issues?

yes, it could be the little copper clip.
do you still have access to the temp wire to ground certain items?

question, this has been going on for 9 days, do you want me to post more steps at one time or should we stop?

Yes I still have the temp wire to ground items. You can post more steps at one time, I am off tomorrow and would like to give it one last try.

Okay, here we go.
Red box, brown wire.
Blue box, black wire.

dome light assembly plugged in and drivers light should be working.
spare ground wire is ready.

using the ground wire, touch it to chassis ground and the brown wire in the red box. Passenger light should illuminate.

if so, now touch the ground wire to the black wire in the blue box, does the light illuminate?
if no, cycle the switch,
if still no, you have a bad switch, you should disassemble the switch again to figure out why it is bad.

Both lights are working and the covers are on!! When I took the lights down MM the top of the right rivets both were getting full power and ground, I knew the issue had to be within the rivets. Even when I used electrical cleaner it did not help. I decided bypass the top rivet and splice the brown ground right to the metal ground terminal. Thanks to you and everyone for all your help! I was so close to giving up.

Awesome, I think that means both switches are functional.

Glad that you finally got it working. Yes, those rivets may work good short term but they are not a good long term design. Did you take a picture of your repair?

Congrats ! Did you test ALL functions of the panel? Homelink? Auto light? Manual on and door open/close? Just want to make sure that you have everything back together.

Yes everything is working. Dealer wanted 1100 for another black panel! I did not find a black used one online. Glad I was able to fix it. Thanks for all your help!.

Yes horrible design. The rivets were mentioned to me from the start but I thought they did not look corroded. I did not get any pictures but it basically looks like the repair you made except it was to the ground section. Thanks for all your help along the way!

Yes I made sure I tested everything since I did not want to take if down and disconnect it for the 10th time. This was honestly the last attempt I was going to make before I gave up.

We have twins, that was one of the only issues I had with the car going on 4 years.
