When I'm working on my vehicles and need to replace a broken or missing clip, most of the time I can substitute one from the generic assortment. Other times, none of the them fit and I have to go to the dealer.

Wow, I could have posted the exact same thing. I bought a box of generic fasteners and it is hit and miss on whether they work. I still like to have them around though because there is nothing more frustrating than having to leave a job unfinished because you have to go buy a stupid part. (as compared to an essential part)

Here is a little known fact. Lowe's has a small assortment of fasteners in their stores. They are in the metal pull out drawers where the special hardware is. They are about 1/2 the price of the dealer, but that still makes them like 80 cents each.

I dunno my friend. It still seems like my answer has been more effective than anyone else's.

I like to save a buck as much as the next guy (maybe even more) but the frustration you are experiencing by buying/waiting/returning the wrong part is probably not worth the extra price at the dealer, especially when the dealer part is $2.41

Still I respect your dislike of my answer and will no longer contribute to this discussion
