Navigation Door

Navigation Door
I have read several threads on this but hoping someone can help me.
The scenario is the nav unit works when I hit open turns on and close turns it off. However the door does not work.
i pulled unit the motors seem to work fine when connected to 12 v and the door is on track so the only other thing i see is a circuit board. I was trying to find out where they can be bought to try to replace and see if that fixes the problem.
I can’t see any other components to try to replace.

Mine did not work when I bought the SC. I bought a used one off e-bay replaced the whole unit and everything works great now. I bought 2 new motors but BGW70 convinced me to replace the unit as replacing the motors were way above my skill level. The now extra Nav unit works great just that door does not work. Good Luck.

Did you check the connector contacts?

When you say contacts what do u mean. I did pless any connectors I saw in and looked at circuit board to see if there were any obvious burn marks and the plugs that go to circuit board I pushed in. Since the tilt function and the open close door function don’t work and they both lead to this board I thought that would be the likely problem. I also see stuff from the navigation unit itself come to the board and the nav system for directions etc works fine.

Is this a new problem or has it been that way since purchase? The problem we have with any of the door mechanisms is the lack of parts. And schematics and test equipment. Basically anything you would need to isolate and repair a failed component. Your best option truly is to find one on ebay and just change it out. Otherwise your talking about reverse engineering, identifying chips and other components. Believe me, no one is going that route.

Existing problem The nav door and tilt has never worked and the radio door does not work either. Found it hard to believe all three motors broke so tested and they didn’t all break so that lead me to circuit board. But like u said if I can’t buy parts ( not sure if a part number on a circuit board to try to find it guess best bet is buy used on ebay and hope it works and replace the hole thing.

I got an idea. Since our friend Dennis (DJWLDW) replaced his unit for broken motors, hence his still has the old unit. Why don’t you contact him, he can send you a PC board and you can try it out.
May be your problem can be solved.

The map in the unit is total useless now in 2020. If it does not work, just keep it closed and forget about it. Just get an AndroidAuto/Apple Carplay head unit to plug your phone and you will be in business and your entertainment will be on par w 2020. Good luck either way. My nav door locked up and would not close. When I had the stereo replaced, the technician tested it and found it would move with 12v applied to it. I said forget it and just set it to closed when you install it back in. Have not thought about it since I get maps from my stereo and they are up to date 2020.

I am really not interested in getting rid of the old unit at this time. I have the 2 new motors that could be replaced if I really needed to. I rarely use the one in the SC now, but given that I do not use a smart phone it has come into play a couple of times.

The radio door may just be a disconnected cable. That was my problem.
You can check by popping up the center island cover. It is a REALLY small cable and an even smaller connector, so it is easy to see how it can become disconnected
