Default Options for chrome wheels peeling?

We have a 2004 SC 430 and it has factory chrome wheels. They are starting to have some peeling of the chrome.

what are the options for fixing them? Would like to keep them and repair if possible rather than get aftermarket ones

Once chrome starts peeling it’s hard to stop it. I would find a local sand/media blaster and have them come out to your house or I guess you could bring them the car. They should be able to media blast all the rest of the old chrome off and leave you with a clean surface.
From there you could pay to have them RE-chromed or you could have them painted. Personally, I’d lean more towards having them painted simply due to costs. Probably not worth spending the money to have them chromed again.

Hope that helps a bit.

Already looked at some options

New replacements $1800 or so

Asked a local wheel refurbisher and he could strip them and do a nickel plating but it would look silver and not chrome.

I would check eBay often for replacement; maybe you'll get lucky.

My son is having the same issue with the OEM chrome wheels on his 05 SC. Please keep us posted on what you decide to do and if you have them re-chromed who you get to do the work.

There are plenty of chrome wheel exchanges out there.

Send your old ones, pay $900 for a new set in exchange.

You should definitely contact the company first. They are listing two different prices for the same P/N. One may be outright purchase with no turn in.

Is the issue the looks or that they are leaking? If the only place that the chrome is peeling is on the bead, causing air leaks, you can grind the bead. (Lot's of restore companies do that.) However, if it is peeling on the face, that's a different subject.

We ended up getting new chrome wheel covers. It made a world of difference. The old faded ones compared to new chrome looked really dull.

There is some chrome peeling near the back on the inside and not at the rim.

With the new covers they look great.

Also some of the old covers were cracked due to tire guys using power tools on them. In the future we will be sure to ask for manual tools only.

My Lexus dealer will rework wheels for $125 each. Take care of curb rash, finish, etc... Maybe check with your local dealership?
