Default Replacing O2 (Oxygen) Sensor

Hello all,

I am a new member and I love this forum!! Today I tried to work on my 2002 Lexus SC 430 and I ran into a lot of problems. I am new to working on cars just and FYI. It all started about a month ago when I saw a check engine light appear on my dash. I went to my friends house and borrowed his code reader. The program had determined that I need to replace one of my Oxygen Sensors. I watched and read a lot of pages and videos and could not figure out where they are and how to fix the issue. Does anyone have a diagram or a method for replacing these and a recommendation for reliable Oxygen Sensor? Thank you for reading this I really appreciate your time. Please stay safe and healthy!!

All the best,

-Teddy

Thank you for your reply but I don't understand what you mean. I searched up Oxygen Sensor replacement for my car on the this forum and there are not how to or how to figure out which sensor needs replacement.

All the best,

-Teddy

You need to learn how to use the search function. It’s easy and very helpful. Hear is one thread about O2 sensor. There are more in the search result.

If you have the code reader, it should give you a code that will specify which O2 sensor has the fault. Your SC430 has four O2 sensors. Some are fairly easy to replace and some require a bit of center console disassembly to get to the connector. What code are you reading?

Hey Teddy, welcome to the forum. If you ever need to search for something, the easiest way is to go to google and type in "clublexus SC430" plus whatever you are searching for. Google categorizes the board pretty frequently and you don't have to mess with the boards search engine.

"Oxygen sensors" is a long word to type, so many people just call them "O2 sensors", so if u do a search, search that phrase also.

As others have said, there are 4 Oxygen sensors in our cars. 1 in front of each catalytic convertor and 1 behind each catalytic convertor (We have 2 cat convertors also)

Denso is the brand that came with your car. I recommend them also.

You maybe tempted to buy a different sensor and put the ends of your old sensors on your new sensors. Though that works for many people, I do not recommend you do that.

I think a picture is worth a thousand words, so here is a video on how to change O2 sensors in general. Not for our specific car.

This video is for a car with the same engine as ours

I think that the best advise I can give you is: DO NOT buy generic O2 sensors even if they are Denso or a name brand.
Generic sensors make you cut the connectors and you will need to splice the ends. I did this the first time I replaced mine to save a few dollars...don't do it.
Buy the ones that are ready to connect and install.

Generic without the connector.

Never heard of a generic Denso sensor. I have purchased a number of Denso sensors and all have come with the connector.
