Navigation cover will not close to protect from sun. What could be the problem?

Most likely the little motor in it is burned out. Because the door opens and closes every time you start your car, it is a common problem. You can buy a used one on ebay. (search sc430 display) The outer door cover color doesn't matter, since you can switch doors.

You can also try replacing the motor for much less money, but it takes a little mechanical/electronic skill.

It could be off the track. Another common problem, as the side screws tend to back out. I used thread locker on mine.

If it is the motor, you can get just that component for around $5. Here is where another member posted the info.

Just buy a replacement off e-bay. It is easy to change. On my 06 the door does not open every time I start the car. It only opens when I hit the open button. I bought the 2 little motors and have them just in case I would every want to try and change them out on the the spare I have.

My 06 opens automatically if the door was in the open position when the key was turned off. It closes by itself when turned off. Although I did gut the NAV (broken when I got the car) and I replaced it with a bluetooth head unit and gps, I am thinking it worked that way originally.

GPS and AM/FM antenna in top-right of windshield.

Dennis,
I wish mine stays open until I manually close it. I don’t think yours has bad motors but the control ECU.

Mine works fine. I never open it and rarely every open either door and when I start the car the NAV door does not open. When I hit the open button up it goes and forward comes the screen. When I hit the close button the screen goes back and the door goes down. The one I replaced back in early 19 had a bad motor. I bought the same 2 little motors the BGW70 bought and replaced in his NAV unit hoping I could pay him to replace the motors in mine then having a spare. But he took a pass indicating it was a real PIA so I put the 2 new motors in the box with the unit and put it on the self.

Hi Dennis,
My car remembers the last setting of the nav door.
if you open the nav door and turn off the car, the nav door will close.
when you turn the car on again, the nav door will open.

sorry for not doing the motor...I just didn’t need another project...perhaps after I retire ;-)

No problem man. I was just stating that I did not have the skills to replace the motors and I am doubtful that there are many who have your skills to replace the motors.
