Default Time for an oil change.

What is the recommended oil for this car and what brand are you using. I think it has always had Pennzoil 5W-30 but I haven't found a sticker anywhere to know for sure. It will be changed every 5000 miles along with a tire rotation.

To the best of my knowledge, Lexus has never recommended a brand of oil. Just the weight or viscosity. Whichever you prefer.

Check out Project Farm's oil test on YouTube. It is very well done. Penzoil Ultra Platinum came in first, even on top of the boutique oils from Amsoil and Royal Purple which cost much more. I switched to PUP from Mobile 1 after viewing the test. It's very well done and hard to argue with.

The oil weight is on the oil cap.

As far as oil brand or type- I think it really is a personal preference.
I have been using Valvoline synthetic-blend in my 1992 SC400 (high mileage) and the original engine is going strong.
My 2002 SC430 is getting full synthetic because...I don't remember why. LOL. Original engine daily driver and no issues.
Good luck with your choices.

Agreed..as with most things, you decide! Too, we are lucky to have so many good products on the market since oil-additive science has advanced so much these days. It would be hard to go wrong with any name brand synthetic. That said, there are differences in the testing results from Project Farm, so if one is inclined to use the best, as always, follow the science!
