Airbag recall ptII
I took our 02 in last month for the airbag recall. Last Friday I got another recall notice saying what they replaced last time was a temporary fix and they now have the correct parts in.
Has anyone else received this second notice?

That is likely a mistake. I had mine done the second time last November (2019). This was the reason it was done a second time because the first was a temporary fix. I can't imagine that they are still doing temporary fixes. What they have in stock at this point is supposed to be the permanent fix.

I do have this recall notice. They will replace a part that was a temporary fix. I need to take mine in, might as well enjoy the loaner car, wonder what I will get this time.

If I recall correctly, in humid areas, the metal would rust & weaken inside the airbag. If the bag deployed, the broken piece would shoot around your cabin with the velocity of a bullet.
A total redesign of the airbag was needed, but car companies could not do nothing while a new air bag was designed and manufactured.
So they replaced older airbags with new ones of the same design. This way they could guarantee the metal was not rusted.
Now that they have a new airbag design, they are calling people in for a second recall.
This is what I was told, but after I typed up this post, I googled it. It turns out that the Washington post disagrees with me and says it has to do with the chemical compound of the airbag components

Finally taking in the SC for the final recall on the airbag. I have put this off for months. I have no excuse not to bring it in.
I wonder what loaner I will get. The guy who has been my loaner guy for the longest time has retired (I think). Too bad, he was always game in putting me on a brand new car, with the highest option on on them, tempting me big time. We sure had stories to tell. I miss him.
I also have to bring in my IS350 for the fuel delivery recall. This is part 2 as well. That's another day.

Remember to take lot of photos of the dash area before you bring your car in. Few of us had nicks on the leather, the trim and the wood after the recall.

A few days after my SC got the final airbag recall (2nd), I received another mailer from Lexus - reminding me of the final recall. Seems that corporate Lexus does not know yet that mine has gone through the final airbag fix. Or maybe not?
