Sc430 retractable roof issue
Hi everyone
I have an issue with my 02 sc430 roof not operating correctly. The issue is, I have to disconnect the battery, then reconnect battery to have the top go up or down. The problem is also that when the top goes down into the trunk the red light stays illuminated. Also if I close the top, when the top closes, the red light stays illuminated.
it only works for one cycle, then I have to disconnect the battery again.
my initial thoughts are I have a bad roof limit switch or a misadjusted limit switch either RH or LH limit switch. It doesn’t seem as if the ECU is getting the final signal that roof is closed or open. Does anyone know how to remove or adjust the 3 switches? Any ideas or thoughts are extremely appreciated, as I’m a long drive from a Lexus dealer to pull the codes.!

Dan,
You really need Techstream to fix roof issues. I would say it is not just helpful but mandatory.
This means you can go to a toyota/lexus independent mechanic who has a copy, the Dealer. or do a google search for "clublexus techstream" and see what it takes to get access to it.
If you have your heart dead set on trying to find the culprit, take the interior panels out of your trunk to reveal the entire hinges. Look for any wires that run along the hinge. At the end of the wires you will find the microswitches. You can check to see if they are dirty. There are also some in the package tray, but I have never messed with those

Well, I guess I should have read the whole post. My bad. No codes makes it a guessing game here which is what you dont need. The red light staying on indicates that for some reason it didn't complete its cycle. I would open the trunk and lift the top by hand and let it drop back down. Then turn the key off or reset the battery, whatever you have to do to clear the red light and try pushing the switch to the open position again and see if that did it. Basically just a bounce test. Sorry for not reading the entire post initially.
