After reading codes, codes get cleared, but for how long?
I read codes off of my 2002 SC430 last week. The codes got cleared and the check engine light went off. I had the 0441 and 0446 codes, and cleaned the gas cap and also looked for loose hoses and pushed them tight. Now I want the system to tell me if I managed to "fix" the problem, or if I need to look into more serious measures. When will the system do another diagnosis and set the codes again? It's been a week, although that car probably got only 20 miles of driving since.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Computer is always monitoring the various sensors (engine running), how/when codes are set or pending codes depends on the fault. 20 miles is not usually enough to assume a clean bill of health, plus some codes require several drive cycles to either be set or cleared.
