Default Car Completely Dead

Went to start my 2006 this morning. It sounded like a normal start for a second and then everything went completely off. All systems dead. Battery is completely charged. Any ideas?

It sounds like you have a loose battery cable. Check the cables on the top of your battery. If those are tight, then you will have to crawl under your car and check your ground.

I doubt that you have loose terminal or ground. It’s your battery that went dead. Try to recharge your battery. If it die again, time for new battery or alternator. Hopefully it's your battery just discharged.

Since battery is charged, check the main fuse. There was another thread on this a few months ago.

The ỌP said it seem started normally the everything went dead that lead me think it’s his battery. I don’t know how he could determine that the battery is full charged?

Will the car start or come on now after a wait period? If not, I'd agree with Wilson2000. That would be the definition of a fuse, it works fine until it blows (loses the magic smoke) and then it is dead with no recovery other than a fuse replacement.

It turns out that it was the positive battery clamp. Although the screw and nut was as tight as it could be the clamp was still loose around the terminal. I think it was distorted from removing it over the years. Bought a new clamp at AutoZone, not identical but I got it to work. Thank you all for you suggestions.

I’m sorry for disagreed with Daryl. And I’m also glad that you found the culprit.

This happens a lot. I don't know if the terminals deform or if the after market batteries have skinnier terminals, but I have this problem a lot.

They sell Battery Shims, or battery caps to solve the problem. This will keep you from having to change the battery terminal

Both the terminal and the clamp are made of soft material, so it is easy to over-torque and deform/stretch the clamp. Any corrosion over the years exacerbates the issue. If both the terminal and clamp are clean, only light torque is required for a good connection.

Unfortunately, if the techs (possible grease monkeys) who work on one's vehicle aren't adept at their trade (over-tight is right), they can f-up one's clamp for life! This is just one more reason I don't let anyone else touch my vehicles. If anyone is going to f up my one of my vehicles, it's gonna be me!
