Default Choosing an ODB cable

What ODB cable did you buy to use with Techstream and why that cable?

I bought the 2.0.4 and works great on my 2006 and my sons 2005. Of course when I use it on my son's 05 it trips the VSC light but that is not the cables fault.

A member (RetroPlay) did a deep dive into the Techstream to determine just that. It turns out that older vehicles (2005 & back?) didn't use the CAN bus but newer vehicles do. The CAN bus is included on the Techstream connector. The presence of the CAN bus messes up the older models and causes the error to show up. There's a big ole thread about this on the forum and a couple of us came up with ways to prevent the errors from happening along with what to do once it occurs. It's not a big deal and has an easy fix.

2002-2005 use a different computer bus type than the 2006-2010.
2002-2005 always trip, 2006-2010 never trip

There are two versions OBD cable firmware available Ver 1.4.1 and Ver 2.0.4. Lately, it’s seemed like all EBay and Amazon vendors only offer Ver 1.4.1 (don’t know why). I’m pretty sure Ver 2.0.4 will work with all SC models but I’m not sure Ver 1.4.1 will work with 06+ models.

I also have the 1.4.1 version that I purchased with Techstream V15 for my Son's 05 in Richmond, VA. The 2.0.4 version works on both of our SC's but I have never tried the 1.4.1 version on my 06.

My v1.4.1 works on my 2007 and previous 2002…remember, these are all bootleg cables and software. Some may not work.

I can't speak for a true "1.4.1" cable since mine actually installed as 1.4.6. It connects and works correctly with my v15 Techstream on my '06.

I just remembered. I used to have a 1.4.1 cable and ver 8 software. It worked with my 07 before I gave it away and bought the 2.0.4 cable with Ver 13 software. Thanks to BGW, I switched over Ver 12 software since Ver 13 had bugs.
