Default 2004 SC430 value

My 88 year old father is wanting to sell his 2004 SC430 and just drive his new GS because it has all the new electronic toys. He is the original owner of the SC and it has just over 17,000 miles. Of course it is in “as new” condition. Serviced exclusively at Lexus in Cincinnati, OH. The tires are original. I believe the timing belt is original too. Any guesses on what a fair price would be for both the buyer and seller. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Interior looks great but honestly gold exterior can’t be popular choice. I’d think low 20’s given lack of maintenance it hasn’t received, despite the low mileage. Do you have a price in mind you want to sell it for?

It is an unusual color combination that likely does not work to the seller's advantage. In the current market, it may bring high 20s. A member here has an '06 for sale for just over 30k with mileage in the low 20s. It is the same (or very similar) exterior color, but with an off-white interior.

Given the mileage, if the rest of the car is as nice as the interior, it would be a great candidate for BaT or CaB.

I know BaT is "Bring a Tailer." What is CaB?

CaB = carsandbids.com, a bringatrailer.com (BaT) wannabe.

My 03 has this exterior/interior color combination. My girlfriend and I love it very much. The exterior color looks very beautiful in bright sunlight. Do not mistaken it for a tan color.

For reference, I almost bought an 05 with the same color combination for $29k 2 years after getting my 03. That car was sold quickly too.

my two cents…
Start really high, ~$32k and keep it at that price until spring when convertibles sell with ease…
also, have it professionally detailed like a car dealer.
keep it in a garage and covered to keep the dust off the car…also, put a trickle charger in the battery. Showing a car with a dead battery is a turn off…
advertise it on the large car selling websites.

It will sell…

good luck and let us know how it goes.

here is a 2004 with 38k miles…asking $30k

here is a 2004 Pebble Beach, 14k miles, asking $34k

Both those cited vehicles are being offered by dealers. Private sales bring less and, frankly, I've never understood the notion of starting "really high." Presumably, the point is to sell quickly with minimal hassle. Price it (or anything really) right and it will go promptly.

Like I said in your other post, I don’t think you will get over 25K on the 04, despite that it only has 17k miles. If your is an 06+, you might get up to 30K.

I don’t know much about selling but I know plenty about buying, LoL.
it was just my opinion and we all know what that is worth ;-)

I am usually a move it quick seller and give someone a good deal…this approach usually comes back around.

Yep, I'm the one TriC is talking about. My 2006 with 24k miles sold for $30k recently. Mine was the Chardonnay Pearl (Gold) exterior with Ecru interior. The exterior color of your car is definitely not as yellow as mine was.

I advertised on AutoTrader, and started at $32,500. I dropped to $31k and then found my ultimate buyer who offered $30k. I felt this was a fair price for both of us, in the current market. Note that I had paid $26k for the car over 5 years ago, so it held it's value really well! Good luck with your sale!

Thank you for all the kind replies. A very fine older gentleman of modest means, who had been looking for a SC430 for 2 years to buy for his wife for their 50th wedding anniversary, looked at the car last week and was thrilled with it. He offered $29,000. My dad countered at $27,500 so they would have money for new tires/ timing belt service etc. Buyer and seller were very happy. That’s the kind of person my farther is.

Do I read it right? The buyer offered $29K and your dad went down to $27.5K? Wow, lucky buyer. I have never encountered the case that the seller volunteerely goes down on the price. Your dad is great.

Yes, you read correctly and my father is great! He was more interested in selling to a buyer who appreciated the car than getting top dollar.

I recently saw an 02 sc at one of our local Lexus dealers. They were asking $33k. And they didn't even bother to detail the car.
I agree. Start high. You might just get it from the right buyer. Advertise it far and wide. Check into shipping cost etc. so you can be complete upfront and honest. If the Timing belt is an issue, take it in. Have it changed and the price will be much more palatable to a prospective buyer. Just my opinion and we know what that is worth! LOL.
