Bleep sound
Hi all. My wife and I took our 2001 SC for a spin yesterday. We were traveling at 50 mph and everything was fine, then I had to slow down to 35 mph. All of a sudden the car started bleeping loud sounding like a French Police car on a chase. There were no warning lights at all showing and it stopped about a half a minute later. My Wife kinda freaked out because of the loudness. I stopped the car and restarted it, no sound and nothing showing at the dash. We went for a 45 minute walk then drove back home 15 minute distance and everything O.K. This was the first time with this sound. Anyone else with similar experience?

From your description, it sounds like the car security alarm went off. Does hitting the panic button on your key fob create the same noise?

Thank you for the response. The sound was coming from around the center consul. The key fob has a lock and unlock function buttons. There are 2 more blank buttons that I pressed but nothing happened. According to my Wife it was a different sound to the car alarm.

Try to unhook your battery for 30 seconds and re-hook and hopefully this will reset the car and eliminate the weird sound.

Just to be safe I would take it in to be checked. Hopefully anything with an alarm would leave a code in your Car's Computer.
My biggest concern is that it might be the alarm for your braking system. From what I read here on the discussion board, there is an alarm when your braking system doesn't work. (possibly when it loses pressure)
Other common alarms is when your Roof is open (but more of a beeping sound than a Siren Sound)
Your air pressure is low (Beeping sound)
Lights on, door open, engine off (Beeping)
Anything that has a Siren sound probably needs to be tracked down sooner than later

Hi Guys, Mario, the sound was similar but not the same. I haven't used the SC since the 15th, but I plan to use it today and see what happens.
Thank you......Chris.

Bleeeeeping sound
You should ask this guy if the sound he heard was the same siren sound you heard

Hopefully going for a spin today and see the outcome.

Just for anyone's knowledge here that may not be aware, the rear pads for the parking break are VERY thin. They are NOT the same pads used to stop under normal driving conditions. But then again, they were never meant to. They are just to keep it from rolling away! Its (parking brake) is there. But be gentle "if you can". Because if you get into the scariest situation possible of being in a 2 1/2 ton vehicle with no breaks. They would probably only work even at low speeds. High speeds, forget about it.

I went for a 22 mile run today and everything was normal. Brakes are good and so is everything else. I'll keep you guys posted in case the sound comes back again.
