For the record, silicone has silicon in it, but true, it is a polymer. And, while silicon is a mineral of great abundance in sand, there are lots of other minerals in sand as well. I believe quartz is entirely made up of silicon. Any geologists out there who can elaborate, or have we beat this sufficiently to death? Fun fact: Silicon is the second most abundant element on the earth, second only to oxygen.
I live in Silicon Valley and began working at Atari in 1975, on the first video games, before the word silicon was on most people's radar. Interestingly, we used "Silicone Seal, or, RTV" (AKA gorilla snot) on the circuit board "pots" to lock them down after testing and calibrating.
When the nick-name Silicon Valley emerged, many users would get it wrong (some still do) and say "Silicone Valley". A friend of mine would always correct them by saying, "do you mean Hollywood?" Because silicone implants were the rage at the time, especially among Hollywood actresses.
I received my hose I bought from mazon. I replaced my hoses. The hose was robust and feels like will withstand the engine temps. Not bad. It is has a rubbery feel to it too, should have done this a long time ago. And I have spare to keep.

Whoa. Way back when I used to repair Atari and Amiga computers, especially Atari hardware. I'm one of the few people that own an Atari Falcon still works.
On degrading hoses I've seen a fair number of Subaru's with this problem they get brittle and don't do their job anymore. I'd love to know what the actual material is that Toyota uses the stuff is nearly indestructible.
