I had my alternator go out yesterday and had plenty of batterry to get home. The mechanic came out to the house and checked it out and is planing on being back on Monday.
But this morning I deccided to put a charger on the battery so I could use it. I needed to move it closer to the charger but, THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. I then got an extension cord and got the charger on it. I noticed that the trunk was popped! Apparently the mechanic pullled the wrong switch looking for the hood latch.
Would the trunk being popped cause the battery to drain even if the lid was not pulled up....Maybe turns on the liight in the trunk....???
yes, that would do it. It used to be mentioned as a common problem but once people started switching over to Trunk LEDs, it isn't mentioned as much anymore
Yes, I'm pretty sure that the light turns on with just it popped. What I did to improve the vulnerability is to replace all the cabin lights and the trunk lights with LEDs. That action should cut the power drain of the lights down to about 10% of what it is with the OEM incandescent bulbs.
Oh, I forgot that you have an '06, I have an '02, which is all incandescent. Definitely worth checking though. If the trunk lights are incandescent, I'd just replace them with LEDs. It's pretty easy and cheap, which is a good combination.

Thank you Harold57. This forum is so full of good tips. Truly a pleasure to read the postings. U guys rock. Regrettably am not car savvy so just a passive, but grateful , recipient of all the advices. Thank you all
Here's a handy reference on how to diagnose the battery condition. You must have a multimeter to measure voltage. Saw this at a Wallyworld and snapped a pic. This is actually a tester and will light up the reading.
Had the same battery drain issue (trunk not closed 100%) while removing my DVD player.
Does the same LED bulb plug/play in interior dome and trunk lights?
Thx
