As y'all know, back in August, I bought an '07 Lexus SC 430. It had 45,000 miles on it, and had been only sporadically used over the previous 5 or so years. I'm the 3rd owner.

Thus far, the car has been awesome. In September, LOML and I took it for a ride all the way from the top of Skyline Drive to the bottom of the Blue Ridge Parkway, top down of course, and it was awesome. Here they are at one of the many scenery stops. 3rd day of the drive IIRC:




The car had an XmRadio installed with a magnetic antenna on the upper right hand side of the windshield. I've removed the system, but unfortunately the antenna scuffed up the coating on the paint underneath a bit. It's interesting as when it's wet, the scuffing disappears so I'm fairly certain it's just on the coating.

Looking at the service history of the car, in 2010, something called "Touch of Class Paint Protectant" was installed inside and outside the car by the dealer. Doing some innerweb spelunking reveals a plethora of products called "Touch of Class Paint Protectant".

Any idea what exactly the coating is, so I can get this properly remediated? I don't want to do anything that will exacerbate the issue.

I don’t know that your “touch of paint protectant” is same as my wife’s RAV4 “ thermal guard”. Toyota charged us $350.00 for 5 treatments that done every 6 months by the dealer. I don’t know the process since my wife is the one who brought the SUV in for this treatment, but I guess it’s just a protectant coat that they applied to the interior and exterior of the SUV.

I went by the place I bought it from today, and they said they would take care of it tomorrow for free.
