Default Top Cycle Question

Does anyone know the lifetime of the top cycle . How long will the top last going up and down ? I have never seen any estimates on how many the top will do .

I’m sure Lexus engineers have this data. Write to them, they might share it with you, or they might not. Would’t hurt.

Isn't this kind of like, "How many times can I turn the key and have the car start?"

Yep. Maybe like how many times will the door open. The answer is, "It all depends."

I'm not aware of any MTBF specs being published on the top's function nor of anyone saying that they knew. So far, there have been just a few failures mentioned in this forum. For the most part, it is pretty reliable.

Because...none of us is Lexus engineer. That’s why.
What you can do is start to record the number of cycles that your SC open and close, and when it fails, you can tell us that. At least, we’d know the minimum cycles that your SC top will endure.
Doesn’t mean anything but what the heck!

Or you could do a detailed MTBF analysis and report back....

I'll tell you I've owned mine for 4 years and it opens and closes at least 14 times a week. Probably more like 20. Even though the pandemic.

I'm not even the first owner. Do the math.

Many........I have a 2002 and can't count the number of times I've dropped the top in sunny California over the past 20 years,,,,,just keep pressing that button until it doesn't respond...enjoy!

Top failures are pretty uncommon on our cars. Considering most of us here have a 2002 (first model year), im surprised it was that well engineered with so little failures.
