2002 SC430 OEM Navigation Blank Screen
First, I am a devout Lexus enthusiast and this is my very first post on a forum. Over 10 years and 5 Leuxs' , I've never had a problem.
I recently purchased a 2002 SC430 and the navigation system displayed "unable to read map DVD." Thinking this was an easy fix, I ordered a DVD drive replacement from ebay and swapped it out. When the replacement didn't work and was clearly defective, I hooked the old driver up. Now the when the car is started, the Lexus logo appears, then the screen goes blank. It responds to some commands, but now the old error message doesn't appear. See the video attached.
-Should I attempt to order or find another DVD driver?
-Could this be another problem?
-Any suggestions?
Looking forward to the input from fellow enthusiast. I fell in love with the SC and the motorized navigation screen. I would love to have a fully functional navigation (even though the data is almost 20 years old, haha)
Thank you!

First off, welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase.
There are several threads on NAV failures similar to this. Most likely the problem lies with the DVD player in the trunk as was indicated by the error message of "unable to read map DVD". Since a 2002 is a gen 2/3, you can get an upgrade by purchasing a gen 4 off of the likes of ebay, often for about $100. It will require a different DVD. However be careful about what DVD disk you order as the gen 2/3 uses a different version DVD than the gen 4. Also, make sure that the disk you ordered and installed was for gen 2/3 and not gen 4.
However, keep in mind that both disk versions have outdated information as the last updates were several years ago.

Most likely your problem is your disk or your DVD player lazer lense. Try to lean the old disk and your DVD player lense. I think the disk you bought is a bad disk.

Per what GmanSC said, be sure to only buy OEM disks. The copied disks usually have issues.

I just ordered another DVD driver and a new disk on ebay. Really hoping this solves the problem. It's a pain to remove all the carpet panels in the trunk to remove the dvd driver.
