Considering a 2002 Lexus SC430 with 111K miles
Hello!
I am considering a 2002 SC430 with 111K miles for 8K. The suspension is making much noise and it seems like there is a grinding sound from the rear wheel-well. Almost feels like the tire is scraping against the car over bumps. Compared to the LS460 that I typically drive, this feels very sluggish. Also, the breaking is not as responsive as I would expect. The owner stated that it has not been driven for over a year due to the pandemic, and the breaks and other components are a bit rusty. The interior is very nice (except for the navigation cover being stuck open) as well as the exterior (aside from some paint chips). The seller had the vehicle for over 6 years, but does not have any maintenance records. So, I will likely need a mechanic to do the timing belt, water pump, brakes, suspension work (what else ...?)
Are the issues easily (without too much cost) cured or do you believe this is a money pit? What do you expect needs to be fixed and how much will it cost.
Thanks!
Daniel

If you don't work on cars yourself take it to a mechanic to get checked out.

Car is capable of 400k miles if you fix the systems as needed. The engine trans and top are almost bulletproof. Suspension is fixable if you are particular as is the stereo.

The condition tells you it has not been taken care of. RUN the other way unless it is $1000 or less. It will be a money pit. My guess is it will cost you $4000 more than what you pay initially.

Thank you for the feedback. The interior of the car is nice, but the exterior is far from perfect. I will have it inspected and if the repair is not too much, will make an offer. Thanks!
