is it unlikely that anyone other than Geppeto working on Japanese Pinocchio cars would be able to find a simple way to restore the springs for that cutesy cupholder? Mine have snapped, after years of being somewhat out of line..had to push down 2x to get it to open!
IF not, do I have to buy the whole assembly, and wouldn't that piece of wood (mine is the light burled elm color) not likely match the rest of the shifter surround? What should I expect to pay for a used one...do they all get messed up at this average 20 year life cycle.
For now, I just put a velcro mini strap to pull it up...kinda looks cheap-maybe I should put a "RIvian" tag on it to be more modern-cachet?
A lot of people say they spilled a soda and their cupholders stopped working. They got stuck in the closed position. They cleaned them up and they started working again,
If yours "Snapped" then that probably won't work for you, but if you just got a "new to you" SC430, cleaning the cupholders with steam or soap and hot water is the first step to restoring functionality
My holders snapped out of alignment years ago and needed to open it 2x to get them to unroll the plastic liner piece.
Can anyone say how much labor $$ is involved in replacing this part..it seems uneconomical if its like changing the center armrest and every thing fore/aft of it?

No, I do not have answer for fixing broken cup holder. I just found the cheap solution for our bad designed cup holder. Seriously, you need to do something for the cup holder before you spill the coffee or soda, that in turn will ruin it.
That is what I was trying to say. I went to the Dollar Tree store and bought the water bottles with the holder that you had found. The color selection sucked but I bought 2 and keep the holders available for when every I bring my 16 Oz water glass in the SC. I have never had the glass tip out of the cup holder.

Does that mean the wood off my old cupholder is removeable easily, or is there some risk of cracking-likewise, is it just glue to put it on another one (the wood)?
That cupholder at $100 was a good deal but not too much on ebay right now...let me know if you see another one!
The part is exceptionally easy to remove and clean or replace.
1. open the elbow rest
2. wiggle out the seat warmer controls by gently pulling it up
3. unscrew the gear shift ****
4. open the cassette deck door
5. gently pull up the wood assembly with cupholder and ashtray starting from elbowrest side
6. done
