I assume you mean AGM. I have had two so far on two different cars and they have lasted a long time. Both have been from O'Reilly. No issues so far.

I have installed 3 Duracell AGM Batteries. One in my 2006 SC 430, one in my 2010 LS 460L and one in my son's 2005 SC 430. The one in my 2006 SC 430 was installed in early 2018 and is still doing a great job. The Duracell AGM batteries are not cheap but I have had very good luck with mine. Batteries Plus sales them.

Thanks guys…didn’t think there would be a problem…saw a guy with an 2004 sc430 and talked about replacing original with an AGM, he said his buddy did on his sc430 and had a problem with it being overcharged and his mechanic told him that does happen on occasion
Interstate shows AGM for replacement on 2002 sc’s so I’ll go AGM
Surprised Costco didn’t have them at your store Bgw70 ….

Question

I'm taking my 02 to my Lexus dealership on Tuesday - what battery will they install? Should I request something different?

I would just let them install the best battery they have.
If you can DIY, then I would suggest one of the Costco Interstate batteries…
you can also go Autozone, advance auto parts, etc and they will install at no charge…

Went through 3 or 4 "regular" Interstate batteries w/in a few mos on my 09 when purchased in 2017. Switched to AGM & I still use a battery tender when I won't be driving it for more than 4-5 days. These cars are notorious battery hogs! I am glad I switched.

I have never understood the position that these cars are battery hogs. I have been away for as much as 3 weeks and got in the car and it started immediately. No hesitation at all.

Well, it does. I have been on 6 week vacation, just came back. Forgot to put the battery on tender and sure enough, the battery’s dead. Had to jump-started the car and recharged the battery.

I remember soaking up this forum before I got my SC. I saw that some - not all - did seem to have crazy battery issues! But some seemed to magically escape them. I crossed my fingers & hoped I'd be the latter, but at least my eye were wide open. Two weeks with a new Interstate & bam - toast. I had my very trusted mechanic really look everywhere for an unusual draw (I wrote down things I learned here from others). Even that didn't help.
Still love the car, though. Glad I got her.
I am happy you haven't experienced this, Iolmaster!
Happy 4th, everyone!

6 weeks is a long time. That proves nothing relating to the position that in 2 weeks these cars have the battery go dead. I have never left any car for 6 weeks without driving it. I would expect the battery to be dead in that amount of time.

Did not happen to my Corolla. Did not happen to my wife’s RAV4. That’d tell you something about the SC battery hog.
