She made it to the moon today! So many great miles together since 2001 (02 model)

congrats! as well as you care for her, i have no doubts she’ll bring you all the way back to earth and then some!

i would chastise your for taking a photo of your odometer while driving, but i did the same thing! it’s reassuring to see we both are taching just over 2k rpm @ 60mph. 😁

I see yours is well on the way back to Earth.
Mine goes in for her 3rd timing belt/water pump next week.

can't you wait longer? i thought the interval was every 90k miles. then again, peace of mind is priceless.

i'm guessing you're the only original owner here who's gotten to their third timing belt. hat's off to you for that!

i had mine done at just over 269k miles, her third timing belt but first for me.

Very cool @Seattle SCone ! Congrats. I've been researching transmission fluid maintenance requirements and not finding any clear answers. I'm curious whether you have any advice based on either your transmission being trouble free for its trip to the moon or based on any transmission issues during the trip.

do you change your transmission fluid?
it’s certainly an easy process on the 2002-2005 models.

My ATF has been changed twice. Once by dealership, once by myself. On the 02's, it is very simple to perform an exchange via just the ATF dip stick tube. I did it by repeatedly swapping out equal volumes (max I could pull out via fluid pump out / same amount back in). Drive a few miles. Repeat until no longer dark brown. Shifting has gone from slightly notchy to smooth after both changes. Final checks later via dip stick to verify level. Some do a complete drain via the cooling lines and then refill. I did it the easy way.

USE THE GENUINE TOYTOTA ATF for your vehicle!!!!!

On newer models, the process is a bit more complex.Others can explain better.

Dealership will sometimes tell you it is a never need to be changed fluid. That's certainly true if you expect ONLY 100,000 lifetime. For we who intend to keep it running longer, change the ATF.

I am curious why you don’t change the transmission fluid like you would change the engine oil.
