Question No Spare tyre?

Newbie here, so silly questions time.
I have just acquired my car from my late father and note that it doesn’t have the run flat tyres (based on what I’ve read so far, this is apparently a good thing). However, it also doesn’t carry a spare? Is this normal? I don’t particularly want to carry around one of those tyre repair gunk-squirting aerosols as I understand the tyre cannot then be retrospectively fixed more permanently at a later date. Presumably if I have to invest in a spare, it’ll be one of those skinny 17 inch wheels I see advertised for the SC430, even though the car has the Lexus 18 inch alloys?

Here is a link with all you need to know about a spare tire. If you decide not to go this direction you can always carry a tire plug kit and a 12 volt compressor in the trunk. That is what my son did until I installed the spare tire kit in both my 06 SC and his 05 SC. This link will give you the parts numbers for each part that you you can try and source via ebay or or new through megazip.net in Japan which even with shipping is still cheaper than the local Lexus dealer.

Hey, thanks for that Dennis. I did search this forum using the word ‘spare’ but that thread didn’t appear?

If you can fit a full size spare, do that. Space saver tires have reduced traction and they usually have a max speed limit in the 50- 60 mph range. Some also have a max range.

There's barely room for the compact spare! We just need to conform to their limitations.

It don’t have to be that way. It is better than nothing, but I always preach to get a full size if it fits in your car. I forgot to add that space saver tires also reduce braking distance. The trade off is not worth it.

You are replying on the SC430 list. There is no room for a full sized spare in an SC430 PERIOD..

I never said there was room for a full size spare.

Default No Spare!

I just bought a 05 SC430 and it had regular tires on it but no spare! What a surprise! Am in the process of adding a spare tire (mini spare). Purchased all the pieces to do the job on e-bay and through megazip.net and am waiting for nicer weather in order to make the change. I am going to modify the original rear luggage compartment trim cover and the floor mat in order to save some money. Will let you know the results! Thanks

It will work fine. I have installed 2 kits like that and BGW70 has installed at least 1 that way. Merry Christmas.

Dennis.
