Well, good. Unlike a lot of parents, you actually know to control your kids.

If that is not a Rolls Royce knockoff I don't know what is. Worse then anything Hyundai or KIA have ever done. Still would not mind owning one though.

Have you forgotten the show-circuit Chrysler Imperial that was displayed, but did not make it into production?

My question is how the heck did they get away with a 5.0L V12 producing 280hp 355lbft up until 2017?! Was it strictly apathy or did they really just not care?! The 2018 will be using the 2UR-FSE 5.0L V8 + LHD previously from the LSh.

1GZ-FE 5.0L V12

Probably because the main intention of this car is comfort, not necessarily power. The twelve cylinders were basically there for jet-turbine smoothness.

The Century is a Japan only car. Japan has a "gentleman's agreement" among Japanese manufacturers to limit horsepower to "280", thus to not seem reckless or some such nonsense. I'm sure it makes more than 280hp, but it definitely isn't tuned like a Benz V12 with turbocharges to make insane horsepower. The Century is also a chauffeur driven car, as long as the power is adequate to pass traffic, its enough. Its not like you can use the 500+hp in a Benz V12 in Japan anyways, there are no autobahns, traffic and congestion are crazy in most parts of Japan.

Interesting, good to know.

Of course not, my point leans towards the fact some newer engine technologies available like DI, cylinder deactivation, alternating Otto/Atkinson to name a few examples of improving power (few extra ponies) or efficiency were not implemented. I'm just surprised Toyota wouldn't keep advancing the 1GZ-FE (1997-2016), it is a flagship afterall

I'm sure this thing would even sell in US. Its a perfect understated luxury chauffer limo for ultra rich old money who don't care about cars. There are no cars like that in US anymore. Bentley and Royce went bling chasing new money.

Toyota announced both Century and Crown Concept at the same time. The article I posted had both so I didn’t change it. I can split them if it’s confusing.

For our community, please notice that a 2018 version is in the oven and will come fresh out in short.

@@Benoit, we already had a Century flaghship thread so I'm merging your post with that one since it's more current. The one you posted in was from 2006.

All that and mouse fur interior? I don't get it. It does not look luxurious, and it quickly changes color as dirt and sweat stick to it (unlike leather).

It is b/c in the days of the horse and cart, the only seat in the carriage that was leather was the drivers seat and this was for durability, the passenger seats were all fabric and this was considered the most luxury. This is what the Century has represented for so many years and Toyota is keeping this tradition alive as they have the much more expensive Lexus brand to show their quality leather seats..

In any case, this is the car for the Emperor and that car is re-upholstered with leather.

Hello Fizzboy.
There is nothing wrong in that, espcially, because this car will also be available in leather if wanted by the customer. But it's a logical choice in Japan. Burning hot sun in the south, shivering cold in the north, lots of moist everywhere...
I believe you all have experienced burning leather seats in the summer and cold leather that you think it's some ice block. So you know why the japanese don't associate that with the idea of luxury and comfort. In my eyes, there is nothing wrong with this approach. I just regret that the V12 got away. But it's really timeless looking.
