I like to change break in oil even though Lexus says not to change it for 5-10k miles. I guess it goes back to when I was a machine operator. For the small amount of $$ it costs to change it's no big deal to me. I know it's not the old days back when cars had Dino. oil in them but I'm sure there was still a small amount of break in particles in the oil. Actually it looked somewhat dirty after the 1100 mile drive back home. Now, if I could just figure out how to post pics. of the car! I totally love the car!

After changing the oil and filling it with 6qts. per the owners manual It shows a 1/2 qt. low between the 2 dots on the dip stick. Manual says this is the acceptable and filling to the top dot on the stick is an excessive amount of oil. Used to be if you filled to the dot it was the exact amount of oil required. Thoughts??

With engine filter replaced it should take 6.7 - 6.8 quarts. Add another ¾ quart...

Also, there is ~1.5 quarts between the Low mark and the High mark on the dipstick.

Maybe they changed the design of the block or oil pan ? Or maybe just how much oil is actually needed since you say your dipstick reads low at 6 quarts.
I wrote 2018 on this manual page so people with older ones don't get confused

Ya , I would stick with 6 quarts too.
That is pretty weird that 6 quarts doesn't read to the the top mark on the dipstick now on 2WD's and adds to the confusion.
Is the dipstick reading 1.6 qts low to full or...... low to excessive?

Has anyone else noticed the oil capacity difference between 'With Filter' and 'Without Filter' for the 2WD compared to the AWD? The difference for a 2WD is only 0.2 Quarts, whereas the difference for a AWD is 0.5 quarts...yet both 2WD and AWD use the same oil filter. Uhh...

The level on the non flat dip stick is even with the #2 in the second illustration . So, on a normal dip stick that would appear to be a half quart low. I noticed when I checked the oil on the first fill up while driving it home from Texas it was in the same spot. At that level, I'm not sure how low that would be if the full mark was the dot at the top. This is sure a new one to me.

My 14 RX manual says the same thing as my 18 GS. The RX capacity is 6.4 qts. with filter and #3 on the dip stick is "excessive". Whenever I change the oil on it with filter I can only get 6.1qts. in it at best with a reading at the #3 level. Strange!
