What is the best way to put the GX on jack stands?
1. Jack it up at the middle of side bar and put jack stand to the front and back.
2. Jack it up under the front cross member and at the middle of the rear differential and put jack stands under the sides?
It depends on what you want to do while it's jacked up (excuse the pun If you are changing the oil, it would be best (and safest) to run it up on a couple of ramps. If you only need to lift one wheel, then put the jack under the strut for that wheel. And, so on....
^Same here. I use the cross member point behind the oil pan drain plug to lift the front and place jack stands under the frame. And then I use the middle of the rear diff to jack up the rear.
If I'm just pulling a tire for some reason, I will find a jack point closer to that tire. The front is a bit tricky as there aren't a lot of flat points near the tires, so the frame under the front doors is a good option.
I want to change the oil and rotate the tires. So I need 2 wheels to be jacked up at least or all 4 at the same time.
For changing engine oil and going underneath the truck, you may consider using heavy-duty ramps. You may not want to trust your life with jack stands or just jacks. I made a ramp with 10X2 wood boards from Home Depot. They are sturdy and solid and better than the thin metal ramps sold in Walmart or Harbor Freight.
Thanks for all the feedback. I ended up jacking up the rear under the diff and put stands on both sides. Then I jacked up on the front-sides and rotated the tires.
The front jack point was confusing since it is on the skid plate until I removed the plate. There is a metal enforcement is mounted on the plate so once you start jacking up it will go against the frame so you won't damage the skid plate.
To be perfectly clear, since that matters, it sounds as though you can jack the front end up at the center front jack point even with the under body protector still in place.
Edit: I have confirmed that you can jack the entire front end up from the singular point with the underbody still intact. I used a rubber jack puck for cushion on the jack. This jack point is handy so you can get an extra couple quarts of trans fluid out during a drain/fill. I drained 4 quarts using the front jack location.
Correct. You can lift by the stock skid in that center rear area of 3rd pic above.
I haven't paid attention to other aftermarket skid plates but my Budbuilts have a reinforced piece in same area so vehicle could be lifted with it still installed.
Rear is easy ... as stated above ... under the Rear Differential for a Center Lift ... or under the Axle Tubes for Side Lift.
For the front ... given the weight ... I would not use the central single lift point ... I place a floor jack contacting the flat portion of the frame rail just behind the front body mount.
One thing to remember if you have aftermarket skid plates. AFAIK… Budbuilt is the only one that maintains that center factory lift point. One would end up collapsing their skid if they attempted to lift without this support.
