Default VSC light & idle

ive got a 01 LS430 w/ 158k miles. Recently had the VSC & engine light come on. Noticed when braking or idling the car was missing or felt like it was going to die. Problem still persists & not getting answers from local mechanics. No Lexus dealership here. Car runs good when accelerating but real rough when stopped or braked. Help!!

Your local mechanics are morons if there is a check engine light all you have to do is plug a scan tool in and see what is making the light appear it could be something as simple as a misfire and just need plugs or it could be something as bad as your motor about to blow up have someone read what codes it's throwing and then we can point you in the right direction.
I am not trying to sound rude I know it sucks your car is not working but it's kinda a shot in the dark right now without knowing the code your car is throwing to give you a suggestion.

Check the codes stored in the computer. Without more info it sounds like your oil control valves (ocv) may be going bad. Pretty common problem at that mileage.

Agreed. Surprised that no answer was available. I’ll see if can get the codes. Shiz! Hope it doesn’t blow up on me.

Sounds like most the cylinders r misfiring, will change plugs. Also was getting a VVT code and cam position sensor. New sensor & not sure on vvt. Will replacing 1 thing hopefully remove others?

By "VSC & engine light", did you mean all/any of the warning lights depicted below?

I would wait until you get the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) before you decide which parts to replace. Most auto parts retailers have a OBDII reader to help customers pinpoint engine problems, free of charge. Jot down the DTC and their descriptions - come back with your findings. A DTC does not necessarily mean you have to replace a part. Often times, a cleaning is all you will need. Randomly replacing parts is not a good solution.

Agreed throwing money around randomly only works at strip clubs lol, with the vvt sensor I believe there is just a little screen that needs to be cleaned?

Try the zero-point calibration (see link below)...
