Default New GM truck engines

surprised there is no three about the new Silverado

Anyways, watching the launch video on You Tube. The new engines can shut off 1-7 cylinders depending on load. In some instances it can run on one cylinder.

Pretty impressive stuff IMO.

It started as that because the Trail Boss was the first release by Chevy before Detroit Auto Show. Page 2. shows a non boss, and some info like the whole truck lost roughly 450lbs thanks to aluminum. But yeah if you want to talk about new GM truck engines that's fine, but add a link, or statement, or picture or something for us to go off of.

But it's not just about what goes in the bed, it's about what's under the hood. GM will offer no fewer than six different engine and transmission combinations, including a new 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder Duramax diesel paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Naturally, gas engines will still command the lion's share of sales, with Chevy's 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8 engines picking up Dynamic Fuel Management, a new system that will allow for running on between one to seven cylinders, depending on load demand. That's right, this truck can sip fuel on just one cylinder.

The profit-rich High Country luxury trim returns with even more frosting, including a powered tailgate.
Great competition for the F-150 King Ranch.

Interior doesn't look bad, but I think the 2019 Ram has both the Chevy and Ford beat in that department.

Interior looks like it was designed by artists fired from Pixar.

Yes....that dash is certainly not one of GM's better efforts lately. Let's hope the new GMC Sierra version is more subdued. Also, the air-vents are a little too inboard.....with the driver's hands at the proper 9/3 or 10/2 position on the steering wheel, the vents are in just the right places to either roast or freeze them with the heat or A/C on LOL.

Looks like the current dashboard just with stuff shifted around a bit, not really a clean sheet design IMO.

As for the cylinder deactivation on the new Silverado, I sure as hell hope they got it right this time. Last time around in 2007, the variable cylinder deactivation system was a disaster, led to lots of expensive engine repairs, worn cam, bent pushrods, lots of expensive crap that broke for what, 1-2mpg improvement??? A lot of guys had this feature tuned out on their trucks, which thank goodness with GM, tuning the ECM is very easy and less than $500, which can save you $1500, 2000, 5000(total engine replacement) down the road.

Have they released the output numbers yet? Long live the Chevy small block. A truck deserves a V8.

I'm still not sold on the looks, hopefully they will grow on me, or I'll immediately love the GMC, but as of now the current Silverado looks much more masculine and "bad-a$$", appeals much more to me.

The interior, I was expecting more, but Chevy is adamant that its customers "like the interior the way it is" so they didn't change too much. Interested to see the GMC. I do however like the steering wheel shifter, I'm probably in the minority but I like them in trucks.

Regardless of all this I would never buy any truck other than a GM.

^^^ Ye olde column shifter, I like it too in the GM trucks, both past and current. Its a good place for the shiftier, gives you more room on the center console to store stuff, its out of the way on bench seat models. Plus the column shift on GM trucks has a really solid feel and thunk between gears, it feels much nicer than the one on Ford trucks or on older Dodge trucks. This has always been something GM has gotten right, even their old column shift cars trucks from the 60's/70's/80's/90's had a nice action to them, a good solid thunk between gears.

At least they left most buttons and every thing is not a touchscreen. I kind of like the interior for a pickup, I remember when pickups had such crappy spartan interiors in the 80's and 90's.

Haha! You read my mind, but also I've never really thought about it. My 03 Yukon is old as dirt but that column shifter is satisfying as hell to use, I always notice when I pull up in my slightly sloped driveway and "throw it in park." I never really thought about it but it is very satisfying, and something they "got right". I don't have experience with many older or other GM cars with a column shifter, but I'll take your word for it. I'm well aware GM knows how to make an automatic transmission though (I wish the automatic in my LS430 was as decisive and quick-thinking as the 4spd auto in my Yukon), so it makes sense the shifter is so solid as well.

Love how the Escalade has always had that huge leather wrapped column shifter.

Agreed, nothing beats the usability and the pleasure of using real ***** and buttons. Seriously. But I dislike all the distinctive shapes everything looks like a separate module.
