Does RX330 Fuel Pump Prime?
One RX330 can you hear the fuel pump prime for a couple of seconds when you turn the ignition on without cranking the engine? Most cars do this but I don't hear my 06 RX330 pump prime and neither do I see pressure build up with ignition on when I connected fuel pressure gauge. I'm having a bit a bit of hard start now and don't remember if it primed before my current problem. Once engine is started it builds up and hold pressure to within spec.

Please listen for the fuel pump priming sound next time you start your RX330 and help me out.
I have 100+ views now and I see many references to RX330 so I hope at least one member/owner can chime in.

Please listen for a fuel pump prime sound and help. I'm still hoping for a reply from someone in this great self-help forum before I take a trip to the dealer.

I had my daughter put her young ears right over the tank location, and from inside car she could not hear the fuel pump prime, and of course, me in front seat never heard it (but I do on some other cars), so kudos to Lexus for making it quiet!
I'm told the way to test for it, is to open the fuel tank cap, and put your ear there, while someone else turns key. Let us know, I had a mysterious no start (crank great), for one wet cold night, and after clearing leaves buildup in windshield drain and sitting overnight, been perfect ever since, very odd, but I suspected fuel pump at first but could never hear it.

BTW, the wiring diag for the fuel pump shows a 2 stage voltage on the pump, a low then high depending on start or run ignition switch position (I think), maybe why it is so quiet at start, and why pressure builds slowly.

Thanks a lot, @Mesquite77. I know mine doesn't build up pressure at all regardless of how long I leave ignition in ON position. It only builds up when I crank. Knowing that priming sound isn't easily perceptible is quite helpful. I'll check with fuel tank off and hopefully turn my attention elsewhere to chase this problem. Thanks again for checking.

In this wiring diag. the fuel pump relay, controlled by the ECM (G wire bottom right), determines whether the resistor (low voltage), or straight (high) voltage is active to fuel pump, so maybe look at that realy for proper operation? ECM likely smarter about things then ignition switch setting.
