That instrument cluster seems especially high up. Are you supposed to be look at it over the top of the steering wheel rim (like the digital speedometer in the old Honda Civics)? Will the rim block the view of the instruments?

Simply AWESOME! This is how a compact sporty sedan should look. What we have here is basically a practical, affordable sedan with sports car styling. The taillights and pipes are right off a Toyota MR2. The dash could be in a mild Ferrari. And yes... that gear shifter is right out of a high-tech video game. Only the front styling could use some sporty tweaks (looks like a smiling Passat up front).
If US or asian manufacturers offered something like this here, young buyers would be all over it. A car like this would be a cash cow.

No. The Parking Assist button has a different type of "P" symbol. It looks like this:
Or, if the system also works through automatic steering, it may have symbols like this:

Peugeot did not have a good run in N.A. when they were here last. Unreliable yet nice comfy vehicles like the 505, which just couldn't seem to run right for very long. But this is a beautifully styled handsome four door. This is how fwd sedan proportions should be done, and that interior is equally beautiful. This sedan is very European with its lines inside and out.
One thing I really like is how the drive mode and the start/stop buttons sit nicely on the console within easy reach and not having to look down at them.
Don't fret car fans, Peugeot may have designs on selling in N.A. again in the future from what I read in the online articles on this sedan, but the wait could be awhile.

mmarshall you are wrong. Park Assist in the general term is like the P with the cone you posted (simply a sonar system on the bumpers) but that is not on the gear selector on the Peugeot 508. tex2670 is referring to the P with the steering wheel. My answer of Active Park Assist is the OFFICIAL name of the feature by Ford, and that system is an automatic parking system

^^^ It's an active hands free parking assist system that's already used in their hatchbacks etc. That button activates it and then the driver just watches it as it does its thing. Surprising just how tight a spot it can get a car into and will also drive out as well. Works with the car's sensors and camera.

Speaking of the sonar one (with the beepers), with the lousy rear visibility on today's vehicles (seeing the end of the trunk-lid is usually impossible) I don't know why anyone would want to turn that sonar back-up feature off in the first place.....unless they are just depending on the back-up camera.
