Going back, your favorite "personal luxury" cars . . . .
I know the term "personal luxury" kind of evokes a big American coupe with a really long hood from the 60's/70's/80's
I just want your take on the genre, what are your favorites??? Did you own a car like this at one time???
Feel free to post other 2 door cars that don't exactly meet the "personal luxury" category, heck they don't have to be American cars either. Just don't post any newer cars is my only rule.
Anyways, here are some of my favorites . . . .
1968 Cadillac Eldorado. I just love the clean, chiseled lines on this car, plus it doesn't have a ton of extra chrome trim like most Cadillacs. 1968 had the windshield wipers hidden under the hood which made it a bit cleaner, and it had the new, bigger, more powerful 472 Cadillac V8 under the hood.
1971 Riveria Just a wild looking car, love the fat hips, the front end reminds me of the later 80's BMW 6 series, classic hood over bumper.
I don't know if you'd call it a "personal luxury" car or a "Gran Turismo", but I love the Porsche 928, if you want to move up a few years and about a thousand steps up in tech vs those old American boats. Really I like the early versions, before they started putting ridiculous rear wings on the 928 in the early 90's. The European versions had 300hp, which was pretty impressive for the early 80's. Us Americans had to make do with 220ish hp, unless you bought a "grey market" European spec as was popular back in the early 80's.
My best friend's dad had a silver 928, early 80's model back when I was growing up, it was his daily driver. I just remember in the boring land of square sedans and minivans growing up, his Porsche looked awesome, like nothing else on the road. As I grew a bit older and watched Scarface for the first time, I'm pretty sure his dad bought the car based on that movie. His 928 was that EXACT same shade of silvery grey as the movie car and had the same "teledial" wheels.

This was my favorite, 1985 Buick riviera. I loved this car. I was heavy gauge sheet metal like the 60's cars. Solid as a tank, and st the time was every bit luxury. Not to mention could go through more snow than most any car.

That's another great Riviera, it was smaller and drove nicer than the earlier 70's cars, but had the same amount of room inside. The lines on it are great as well, its a much nicer car than the same year Eldorado which had the craptastic aluminum 4100 V8. Plus you could get it in a convertible, something the Riviera had never done before.

4 doors isn't personal luxury, but man that is a sinister looking purchase. What is it? A 1972 Continental? I'm more of a GM guy and don't know my Fords quite as well. Anyways, you're sure to have the biggest car at any car meet.

This wasn't actually mine, but it belonged to my dad. 1973 Lincoln Mark IV with silver landau top and silver leather interior. The hood was as long as my current S5 and it handled like a boat, but boy did I feel like royalty when he let me drive it! This was the epitome of personally luxury because it had such a long hood and trunk and basically room for 2 people. The back seats were barely usable.

It's a 1971 Continental. 7.5 litre/460 motor. 365 hp & 500 lb/ft torque.

Among traditional American personal-luxury cars, I liked the mid-60s-mid 70s Olds Toronado / Cadillac Eldorado (same platform) for their FWD, which was unusual at the time. I thought that (by my tastes) the most pleasant ones to drive to the 70s-vintage Lincoln Mark IVs for the incredibly soft cushy ride, though that setup admittedly produced some wallowing and, shall we say........less then Formula-1 handling.

I had a 87 and 94 Legend coupe. I was...ok still a speeder. The 1987 Acura Legend had poor brakes, I was always concerned when fast braking was needed. Nevertheless I used to max it out at 128 mph for several miles. I once was in the fast lane and someone pulled in front of me and I could not slow it down so I had to pull into the emergency lane. The 1994 Legend had better braking along with better torque. Slow at start but fun after10 mph or so, I sprinted around cars and would hit 100mph with ease.
The Oldsmobile Trofeo coupe is what I would consider my favorite (think it was a 1987). Digital dash,auto headlights that flipped up, moon roof. The car would chime if I left the turn signal on. A car that was ahead of it's time. I would start that car with a passenger and they were wowed

The most influential car of my childhood-the 1967 Buick Electra 225 my dad brought home new in mid '67 for...for some reason I remembered the price; $4765.
This car was so cool to me-I kept it clean and waxed for dad.
I remember 5'1" mom commanded this boat with the authority moms had in those days, fording some crazy iced roads and snowdrifted Illinois town roads with just a drive wheel and studded snowtires.
That 430-4v8 moved the 4300lb beauty with such ease-360hp and 485lbs torque...those old big blocks made a mockery of what they call serious power nowadays.
